connected off the 690....bus arrived on-time sandgate 5.01....then @ 4.57 translink update the website stating that the 5.09 inbound is cancelled...next inbound 5.24  :steam:

techblitz

inbound train that was supposed to be here @ sandgate @ 5.24 still not here at 5.37...stationhand put a message over at 5.32 that the train is delayed at Shorncliffe for unknown reason......this looks sus...potential cancellation by stealth??

techblitz

stationhand said crewing issues has forced the 5.24 to be cancelled so the next one will leave sandgate @ 5.50. Now about 50+ waiting here. Last inbound that left was 4.56 pm. That makes it almost 1 hour between services.

ozbob

Huh?

QR just posted this on Twitter ..

Well at least there is some honesty there ' crewing issues ' rather than the ' operational issue ' crap hey?

Just asking .... is it possible for Slater and Gordon or Maurice Blackburn or similar legal firm to organise a class action by commuters against QR over the rail fail fiasco.  QR is a legal entity capable of being sued ... for 'breach of contract' would be the obvious.  Claim would have to be made by registered go-card users, not 'one-off' random travellers.  The legal evidence to be put before the court would be a travel pattern showing regular pattern of travel between two point and a cancelled train that interrupts that pattern.

When someone scans their go card, they are contracting with QR to take them to where they want to go in the timeframe between when they log on to the point in time when the train to their destination pulls in at the station and then, in turn, pulls into the station at their destination.  A no-show train is a breach of contract, is it not?

Where are all those smart legal students with go cards!

I spent a fair chunk of this afternoon riding the rails.   Absolute total clusterfu%k with regard to cancellations.  the QR, translink sites are only showing about 1/3 of what is actually being cancelled or being so late that it may as well be cancelled.
Especially since today is already a day with many timetabled cancellations, this is totally unacceptable and someone in QR needs to come out at a press conference and explain what is going on.

No. You are boarding a Translink service. By using a gocard or purchasing a ticket you are entering into a contract with Translink. It just so happens that Translink has service contracts with operators. Hence why the operators aren't providing 'you' a service but a service to Translink.

Unfortunately you would have no leg to stand on in any legal suit. Translink is part of the Government and thus it has some immunities. No different than you wanting to sue the Government because you were stuck in traffic on Sandgate road or had to make the detour up to Mt Nebo when the Goat Track was closed for a few years.

Do people still don't want to open it up to competition, even though it is falling apart left right and centre?

Do people still think it is the best and that no-one can do any better - ever?

Still think it can be fixed by making (minimal/none) changes?

Still believe that politicians can 'fix it' by shouting at Queensland Rail louder and louder? Or by politicians reciting the words 'angry', 'furious' or 'unacceptable' over and over again?

I note that everyone on the board still has their jobs. Why is that?

I note that the bonuses have not been clawed back, and next years have not been cancelled either? Why is that?

With all of these cancellations and even worse, the very short notice, it is making an excellent case for ending monopoly contracting in South East Queensland.

QuoteJust asking .... is it possible for Slater and Gordon or Maurice Blackburn or similar legal firm to organise a class action by commuters against QR over the rail fail fiasco.  QR is a legal entity capable of being sued ... for 'breach of contract' would be the obvious.

There is no way the government are going to allow people to sue it. The least you will get is perhaps a day free travel (if you trust - even the free travel might be disrupted too).

TransLink is not going to sue for breach of contract - that would be one arm of government suing another arm of government in the government's own court! That does not happen! The contract is a complete fiction, unenforceable.

Indeed the Minister, Stirling Hinchliffe is ultimately responsible for both TransLink AND Queensland Rail. So I guess he will sit in a mirror when be brings legal proceedings?

You can't fire the CEO of Queensland Rail because the CEO has already departed.

With a private company there are profits that can be eaten into with penalties. With a government-owned operation, there are no profits to eat into so the penalties are unenforceable.
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

Once the Strachan Commission of Inquiry delivers its findings I think we might start to see some significant organisational and structural changes.

It is not only Queensland Rail, it is the entire dynamic with respect to TransLink, TMR, BCC and other Councils and of course the operators.

Here is a clue to a possible future direction > https://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=12341.0

Please keep discussion in this thread relevant to service disruptions.

Seriously, a track closure on the weekend before Christmas was always going to cause grief.

Sadly, there is a distinct lack of reality with QR, TMR and the clowns these days .. hey!!

Lets look on the bright side.
Trackwork presents opportunities for free travel.
Eg: today anyone could have moved between park rd and varsity lakes for free :P

Well, on the bright side, you can get free travel!

I guess they have to balance out trackworkers holidays (especially around Xmas/NY) and the need to maintain the network (we could be like Melbourne!).

I'm not sure why you mention TMR, they don't have anything to do with the maintenance roster, it's all Qld Rail, done internally with communications handled by TransLink, which by the way, they could have a more obvious thing on the website and app to alert people of the trackwork?  I find it interesting as well that they blame TransLink for the trackwork, when they are simply the messenger, kinda seems to be a disconnect between the public and what the government organisations actually do.

ozbob

TransLink is a division of TMR.  They organise the replacement buses.

I was being general with respect to the overall shambles.  I am well aware that Queensland Rail sets the maintenance roster.

I was promised a clear statement re fares on rail replacement buses not being enforced.  Still waiting ..

Particularly on the GC line in summer... very popular with day trippers and people doing weekends away. You'd think they'd try and avoid closures at this time. No surprise it took 2 hours to drive down, the M1 is a shocker on hot days like Saturday was.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

techblitz

coming back is a breeze. About 1 hour for the non-stop express trip from robina to central.
