3:16pm Rosewood-Central train cancelled

The Rosewood to Central train has been cancelled due to an operational issue. The next Rosewood to Ipswich train departs Rosewood station at 3.50pm. The next Ipswich to Central train departs Ipswich station at 4.07pm.

===================

Not good, not good at all.

These clowns have not got a clue.  The 3.50pm ex Rosewood arrives at Ipswich at 4.11pm - it does not connect.  The next down service out of Ipswich is the 4.37pm.  The flow on effects for punters is considerable.

This is getting to be a real shower of sh%t sadly ..

One really does wonder how a rail system that was rolling along well prior to Sep 30th, can turn into such a sad excuse of cuts and non delivery of service.

Will the Strachan Commission of Inquiry be made public?

So much for "there won't be anymore cuts" by transport minister Hinchliffe.

I'm curious to find out how close to collapse we were under the previous timetable.    Not a huge amount of service increases were made on october 4.

The had very good OTR both peak and off peak.  It seemed to going well, the major issues being the odd fault, bridge strike, trespasser etc.

The complications with the variable dates for RPL didn't help.  The only public manifest clue that there were issues was the 50 odd cancellations on the Friday prior to the opening of RPL (30th September).  Otherwise no one outside the QR tent knew other than what was being said by the Govt and QR PR machines re signalling issues etc.  I did speak with Minister Hinchliffe at RPL opening re the Friday prior cancellations.  He said he wanted an immediate briefing. It was from that point that it really started to unravel.

QR knew, covered up, didn't inform Minister, obfuscation re Strachan inquiry -- wanted to be a law unto themselves.  Not good in such a vital government service.

As a result of a bridgestrike near South Bank station, Beenleigh and Cleveland line trains in both directions, are delayed up to 15 minutes.

Airport/Gold Coast line trains are on diversion using the Tennyson Loop and will not stop at Park Road, South Bank or Sout Brisbane stations, travelling express to Roma Street station.

I'm currently on the Gold Coast train at Southbank.  16mins late, all trains on all lines are affected, running about 10-15 minutes late, due to the mains only available, so obviously a cascading effect from the bridge strike.

Glad I travelled into the city earlier, before Fortitude Valley station turns into a log flume again.

After waiting 20mins for the 10:28pm Fortitude Valley to Ferny Grove, there is an announcement one minute before scheduled departure that it running 20 minutes late due to "operational issues". Why no preceding announcement? Why was the PID showing the train as 1 minute away? Could have taken another route home if I'd known. Bloody useless information QR!

ozbob

More than a few services cancelled, again.  Very unreliable system now ..

" cancelled due to operational issues and storm activity "  ... they are just not trying hard are they?

Ongoing issues with Queensland Rail reliability

Greetings,

The hallmark of a good rail system is reliability built on redundancy and resilience.

There has been a steady stream of service cancellations over this weekend

[ See > https://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=1862.msg184505#msg184505 ]

Even more puzzling is this:

https://translink.com.au/service-updates/108261

At 7.51am TransLink issued an advice that the 10.02am Ferny Grove to Central train has been cancelled from Ferny Grove to Bowen Hills due to a mechanical issue.

The next Ferny Grove to Central train will depart Ferny Grove station at 10.32am.

Surely there is enough time to bring into service another train to replace the failed unit?  It is off-peak and Sunday.  Mayne yard is full of trains.

Despite assurances otherwise, it is not getting any better on the rail network.  When low frequency services are cancelled it usually means significantly longer journey times for those passengers still using the system as connections, both rail and bus, are often missed and it means long waits till the next services.

Is there any chance of the Transport Minister actually explaining what is being done to fix this mess please?

Thank you.

Best wishes

Robert

I think the biggest issue re last night is when crap like storms bridge wacks and the like train crew are then working to altered job cards and getting them back on there proper working is a sh%t storm as not having spare crews to deal with it so it's harder planning on the fly it would be good if qr could just do what it needs to do without political pressure

Yes, some would be storm related but there is a real lack of resilience and ability to recover.

Why hasn't a new unit been brought into service to get Ferny Grove back on timetable this morning?  There is no reserve what so ever sadly.

I hope service over Christmas and New Year is spotless. Public confidence will be destroyed completely if services are cancelled during these times, particularly getting home from NYE celebrations.

Palaszczuk Government basically gone with all this.

Lawrence Springborg is standing down, so it is almost guaranteed that will go to One Nation is my guess.

That's what I mean when qr were doing what it wanted years back with regards to crewing and staff needs it was able to react and get things going in a short space of time now qr had bigger all staff and it's just on auto pilot and going with the flow

ozbob

Thanks.  Yes, agree.

Our political representatives are there to represent us, the citizens.  I am not making demands of QR I am asking our elected representatives, through the Minister, to please explain what is going to be done to fix it.

I understand cuts were not only to train crew but other areas such as track protection staff, maintenance and so forth. It seems to me that the there is still a bloated middle to upper management, complete with cash bonuses.

The public is losing (lost?) confidence with the reliability of public transport.  It should be like this. Not at all.

I understand that bob I really do and you do as well but some of the attacks are really starting to get overboard they need to stop and look at the whole picture not 1 little part as in translink are the ones who tell qr we want this level of service hell or high water now where before they could just so openly we can't do it back in the day and the politics are getting worse and making it harder for the people trying to get on with it

How else are we going to get an improvement though?

The bus network is a shambles. The rail network is a shambles. Road congestion is getting worse. Something drastic needs to be done, or else Qld is going to head into transport oblivion. I can't blame Bob for being so frustrated.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

ozbob

Yep, simply carrying on as they have will not improve it.

Needs a  ' cathartic ' change.

Competitively contract out the lot - bus & train. Give TransLink teeth to take on these monopolies.

Give TransLink the power to say NO to contract renewals. They will comply. If they don't, they are OUT.

This is old, but I am reminded of this exchange:

That is what we are dealing with. We have the power to fix it. Don't/Won't perform - OUT!!
