Seems the problems continue tonight, delayed at Beenleigh waiting for a Ferny Grove train.  Apparently crew are overdue for a break, at least there are staff here to ask.  QR need to quit the operational issue crap and provide the actual reason for delays/cancellations/skipped stations.

I'm coming from Gold Coast so if I'd known of the delay I could have just continued to Park Rd as live Fairfield.

Just to clarify, I have no issue with staff taking their entitled breaks.  Its the communication that needs to be improved.

just heard here at Caboolture that the sunnycoast train is approx. 15mins late. Scheduled @cab 1.56 anticipated 2.14.......605 departs landsborough 2.33...theres no way that bus connection can be made unless the bus waits the extra 15 mins needed. Next 605 departs 4.03pm....*face palm*

Couriermail --> Queensland Rail driver shortfall set to cause train chaos

QuoteCOMMUTERS face more public transport chaos as Queensland Rail struggles to fill a driver shortfall.

Thousands of passengers were left stranded without warning on Friday when nearly 50 train services in southeast Queensland were cancelled because drivers were busy training other staff on the new Redcliffe Peninsula Line.

The rostering problems threw the public transport network into chaos and led to an urgent inquiry from Transport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe.

Customers were left fuming after they were given only a few minutes notice, with gaps of more than an hour experienced on some services.

TransLink told customers the cancellations were due to "operational issues".

A QR spokeswoman yesterday said the disruption to 48 of 1259 services on Friday was because of seven shifts being unfilled the day before the Queen's Birthday long weekend.

An additional 31 shifts of the 600 drivers and guards rostered on needed to be covered because qualified drivers were training on the new line.

"On Friday night, to facilitate intensive training requirements we needed to fill an additional 31 shifts as qualified drivers piloted others through new infrastructure near Petrie to gain their competency," the spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman could not rule out future disruptions.

"The intensive training schedule through Petrie is due to be completed by the end of October and we will be working hard to manage our resources and minimise disruption for our customers," she said.

The State Government has recruited 100 new drivers and 100 new guards. It takes a year for a new driver to be fully qualified.

Mr Hinchliffe said he requested that QR keep him updated "as they move through training requirements and recruitment processes".

Public transport advocate Robert Dow from Rail Back on Track said the "serious" disruption had affected a "hell of a lot" of commuters.

"On peak there can be up to 800 people on those trains and this went on all day, it just kept happening," he said.

Desiree Davis, 24, said her friend had been affected by the staffing shortfall last week when she went to buy a ticket from an unmanned booth at Darra Station.

"The lady was over the other side of the platform and told my friend she couldn't help her,'' she said. ''She was pretty distraught about it.''

Why were around 50 Queensland Rail services cancelled on Friday 30th September 2016?

Good Morning,

We noted a significant number of Queensland Rail services were cancelled yesterday.

Service disruption notifications via https://twitter.com/TransLinkSEQ indicate around FIFTY (50) services were cancelled without any real satisfactory explanation.

Can the Minister For Transport please explain what is actually going on? Punters are tired of being left stranded on the network and missing important bus connections.

Are there enough train crew and trains to roll out the new train timetable from the 4th October 2016?

A concerned public would like to know thank you.

Best wishes
Robert

Queensland Rail would have known that cancelled services would be happening all day on Friday.

Perhaps they could have warned the travelling public to this effect.  This would have created a bit more good will I feel.

Most Train services are all delayed by around 15 minutes due to the usual thursday suburban track tunnel closure through the cbd.

BrizCommuter

Trains running up to 10 minutes late due to daytime track work in the network core taking a track pair out of service. When will QR realise they now run too many off-peak services to rely on one track pair now?

Arnz

4:00pm Roma Street to Nambour service was cancelled due to (reported by colleague and others on the TL/QR pages) mechanical failure with the ICE (and therefore leading to delays to following Caboolture services).  Think this may be a taste of things to come.

Preferably the 3-car IMU would suit the 4PM Nambour run than the 5-car ICE on the run if QR lacks the units.  It would however mean having to shuffle unit allocations around though, which is tricky with the high fleet usage during to peak.
Rgds,
Arnz

Unless stated otherwise, Opinions stated in my posts are those of my own view only.

ozbob

Yes, it is bit of a worry re the ICE.  Even a DEL + SX running on the Ippy to free up a set might help hey?

Could always fire up a steam loco or two as well?   :lo :lo :lo :P

I can see the headlines now ' Steam triumphs and saves the day once again ! ' ...  :bg:

I have, however, been hearing Control advise Caboolture trains to stop at Toombul and Nundah (presumably vice versa too) to make up the extra frequency.

I have been advised that disruptions during peak will be minimal.  As more drivers get qualified for the new sections these cancellations will decrease each week.

Most rail systems would have enough railcrew to adequatly cover the training.
Most rail systems would conduct training and certification on the weekends as well.

When the new signalling was implemented from Corinda through to Darra West I recall seeing pilots being used for a number of weeks on all services till qualified.  There wasn't service cancellations then though. Perhaps there was a bit more slack then ...

Seems to have resumed.  Left Kippa-Ring on time at 4:46pm on my first trip on the Redcliffe Peninsula line.  Planning on connecting to the Nambour train at Petrie.

Also onboard VAS on Kippa Ring trains substitutes Nambour for "Sunshine Coast" for the change train announcements.  E.g "Passengers for the Caboolture and Sunshine Coast lines please change trains at Petrie".

However the VAS onboard the Nambour trains still announces it as "This is a Nambour train". A bit of inconsistency.

One of the QR Facebook replies said it was for training on new infrastructure between Petrie and Zillmere, not the Kippa Ring line.

Aside from the North Pine bridge nothing's changed?

This situation is a disgrace. There should be an inquiry as to why QR have such a lack of train crew.
