QuoteA Queensland Rail spokesman says the fault stems from from an electrical cable, which is being replaced.

"We've got multiple teams of electricians down there getting this thing fixed as quickly as possible but they're still saying only 10 minute delays running into peak," he said.

"We just want to apologise for any inconvenience caused and we're hoping to have the problem rectified as quickly as possible."

There are a number of ' empties ' that return to Ipswich for stabling.  One of these should have been grabbed to run a revenue service.

I kid you not.  I have been on the UP platform at Goodna waiting for an UP service, which has been cancelled (eg. the 8.05am UP ex Goodna).  The masses watch in amazement as empty trains run past on their way to stabling at Ippy.  It is only 30 minute counter-peak, they pull one it is then up to an hour wait (particularly with the fuked bus connections).  It is just pathetic really.

Footnote:  I have previously made representations direct to Queensland Rail along the lines that if an UP Ippy counterpeak is cancelled then active steps should be taken that one of the stabling movements at least run from Darra to Ipswich for passengers.

Of course in Perth and Melbourne the counter peak service is similar to the peak direction service!

60 minutes at Nerang unfortunately.  Was easier for me to turn tail and head back home on a terminating train which reversed and headed back south - at least I have the "luxury" of being able to work from here.  Probably getting in another 3 hours worth as a consequence.
