Yours truly got caught up in those above delays after getting a flight back from Sydney.  Got the notice as soon as I boarded the train at Domestic Airport! ::)

They only had one pair of tracks (the suburbans) open due to the continued daily trackwork on the mains through the inner city, which basically stuffed up the entire network for a good 45mins!

bretto82

The reason for the closures on the mains on Mondays and Thursday's the subs is for the 96 hours track certs they have to walk through the tunnels the rest of the network gets away with no blocks as they are in the open makes it hard on the inner city stations but they can't get away from it which is a pain not only for the public but the local gangs as well

Why can't they do it late at night like the rest of the civilised countries do? I mean, it isn't like the high frequency extends much past 7:30pm, so you could start at 8pm and not inconvenience anybody.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

Even on the weekends where there is no scheduled trackwork, it could also be done.

It is time TransLink and Queensland Rail simply reported the facts when it comes to incidents. Other jurisdictions such as Sydney and Melbourne do this. TransLink and Queensland Rail continue to report cryptic nonsense.

Reporting the facts immediately clarifies the primary reason for delays and public understands.  It is rather absurd that people have to to turn to other media outlets to find out what is actually occurring/occurred.

Queensland Rail have posted this comment on the FB thread

QuoteQueensland Rail Hi all, thank you for your feedback. We are committed to being open and transparent about delays on the network, so that our customers can make the best decision regarding their travel plans.

During a police incident, it is critical that we take advice from emergency services to ensure that we don't impact on an investigation. We understand that it can be frustrating when the reason for the delay is not communicated, however we have always done this out of respect for the hard work of emergency services and the people involved.

We are always happy to take your feedback and review our approach. We will work with closely with other agencies in the coming weeks to see if improvements can be made.

Thank you again for you feedback.

Points failure somewhere south of Roma Street Station at midday, just resolved at 1.20pm. All lines stopped, they appeared to be turning back some trains, sending them to the north.

Walked through the Roma St subway at about 1pm, a lot of hot unhappy customers and staff trying to deal with them.

verbatim9

Abc 612 mentioned that a listener asked what's a points failure. The radio host replied with "The generic term (A points failure) seems to be an answer to all QR delays lately". Apparently there is a 75 mins delay

ozbob

Yo, trains resumed

Official " Trains on all lines have resumed in both directions following an earlier points failure at Roma Street station. Customers can expect delays of up to 60 minutes. "

The extra services for Ed Sheeran tonight started waaaay too late, my Ippy home was over 10 minutes late plus a 5+ minute dwell at Roma Street because it was overcrowded. Add to that that it was almost standing room only from Nerang and Helensvale just after 4 on a Saturday, the only extras were from the mains which is just silly, do only people on the same line as Milton go to Suncorp? Could have really done with a shuttle that runs from Milton up through the Exhibition line and loops back into the city, terminates at Milton and turns back and does it again, and if not that just shuttle Milton-Roma Street. Would have helped relieve the congestion at Roma Street and it's not like it would have been competing with peak hour paths.
