So, in this situation, QR accepting 'duty of care' to get passengers to their home stations?  Contrast with recent SC disruption?

For starters, the security issue at Beenleigh didn't wash away the train track and leave people stranded on the Pacific Motorway for 6+ hours.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

These are the facts...

The Bruce Highway northbound was opened (on the night of May 1, 2015) since around 10:45pm.
Buses arrived at Caboolture station at around midnight.. and the occupants were told there is nothing for you north of Caboolture when they embarked at 11:25pm from Petrie.

Cars and Maxi-Taxis - many taken by Sunshine Coast commuters at great personal cost (ranging from $72.15 up to $212 - in one instance of a single female) - were heading north since before 11pm.

It clearly was possible to get fare-paying passengers home that night - they chose not to do so.
Sometime around 12:30am a bus went from Caboolture to Elimbah station and a train completed the journey to Nambour, arriving at approx. 2am.
Who knew.. we sure didn't know or were told.

The policy jeopardised far more lives than it was trying to protect - on a night when 5 perished who were washed away in flooded causeways (by their own misadventure) -  and I told the Deputy Premier, the D-G of TMR and the CEO of QR so.
God forbid that the woman with the 7 month old baby in the car and 4 year old son (whom gave me a lift home) should have met a similar fate trying to get to their loved ones in the middle of the night.

I asked for a guarantee from the Deputy Premier that fare-paying passengers to the Sunshine Coast could get home, and by home I mean to their home station - NOT front door - with the caveat "where it is possible to do so".
Incredibly, I got no such guarantee.

Looks like a class action will be the way to go in future.. some may even be considering it now.. and who could blame them.
You cannot take someone's money paid for a purpose and then wash your hands of them because -  if it isn't a bus or train - we won't get you home.

Using Maxi-Taxis is not setting a precedent, I told the Deputy Premier.. it's been done before.

I will also expect a response from the State Government on what exactly their review of these circumstances will result ...
The days of saying nothing are over.. communication needs to be improved by the Transport Ministers office too.

The Deputy Premier stated (in a Sunshine Coast daily story) that the shelter on trains concept was 'under review.'
Still under review after 6 weeks .. sheesh.
Regards,
Fares_Fair

Sounds like you are being brushed off. Of course it was sometime after the event as the public and media have moved on. If they had given that response the day after, well it would be news. Now... not news.

The Sunshine Coast Line is Third World. Maybe you could have some collective insurance scheme so that when this does happen, you get refunded or get a maxi taxi.

Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

#Metro

Could be a Sunshine Coast Commuter Guarantee - membership fee plus flat charge if the service is activated. Someone would have to promise to drive in the event.

Just an idea. Maybe local council could also come on board.

I get the impression it is really 'fend for yourself' anywhere north of Caboolture.

Got an interesting response when I rang the 13 12 30 number last night to ask for a Rail Replacement Bus timetable (yes I know that 13 12 30 doesn't give you the actual TransLink but their contractor 'Stellar Asia Pacific', but anyway).  The response went like this "We don't offer a timetable to the rail replacement buses as the buses only operate a few times a year, they will depart when the train departs from the start and roughly when the train arrives at other stations, but please allow up to 60 minutes for the replacement bus. The buses will also be running all stations from Park Road to Cleveland, there will be no expresses"  I'm thinking WTF, that will take AGES to do something like that.

So basically, all that happens is that they don't create certain routes, they don't time those routes, they just go ahead and run them effectively and do everything ad hoc by two way radio on the day, in other words, a rail replacement bus timetable doesn't exist in the first place, so forget asking them for one as they don't run the buses by a timetable, going by what was told to me last night.  Sigh. ::)

Last night at around 9PM trains were suspended between Park Road and Murarrie due to a "Police incident". QR did pretty well, I was onto a bus at Park Road straight off a bus from UQ. However there were no stop announcements made at all. People unfamiliar with the area would have been left out in the lurch. It is small things like this when disruptions happen that p%ss me off. I know that they can not be avoided, however they struggle to get it right when it does happen. A great example I have experience is bus after bus pouring people into Park Road from UQ when trains are suspended to the city. Bus drivers should be advised so people can stay on the 66, 29 etc... if that will help them get home.

Have to say there was a bit of miscommunication yesterday with QR and TransLink. Was at Zillmere station at 10.06 am and pressed the next train information heading North and was advised that the next train was in 53mins. Thinking trains ran every 30 mins, I rang TransLink to ask if the train @ 10.32 was cancelled and they advised no there was a train expected @ 10.32 Then @ 10.32 am announcement when the train was due, saying the next one in 30 mins. Hence the train was cancelled no info alert on any apps or TransLink twitter or Call centre. Ended up aborting the train trip and took other means.

A few photos from Seven News reporter Josh Adsett. Apparently the train is stuck along bushland, so rescuers are having to carry in generators to power lights. 140 on board and all passengers seem to be doing okay. Rescuers have called the SES in to bring water to the stranded passengers. Buses in place to transport them once they get off the train - which has only just been de-energised at 7.15pm. A few unlucky Titans fans on there too it seems.

Trains currently terminating at Coomera and then heading back to Brisbane.
