I managed to go past the site where the tree fell while catching a bus today along Stephens Road (route 202).  Seems like what has happened is a tree on the top of the embankment on Stephens Road collapsed and obviously fell onto the overheads near the tunnel between Southbank and Park Road.  Saw this at about 2:30pm.  Police and QR staff were attending at the time.

Some general conceptual comments regarding delays.

When a road congests due to an incident or otherwise, this creates a time delay. This delay is seen as a jam/congestion.

When a rail line is shut down due to an incident (natural or otherwise), this also creates a delay. No actual jam is seen but the effect is the same - a time delay.

If a road users were delayed by 30 minutes, that would be serious congestion. If a rail line were down for an equal amount of time, should we view the delay similarly?

Disruptions to the rail network (natural and bridge strikes, boom gates etc) should be reported in the TL tracker.
Possibly the service-hours lost or impact factor (pax x time loss) as well.

The purpose of Class A ROW is to isolate the system from disruptions that are the result of general traffic etc. Clearly this is not working.

It works if dickheads stop driving trucks into infrastructure or old ladies driving through fences at Nundah.

Delays of up to 20 minutes due to signal fault at Bowen Hills station

Last updated: 12.54pm Thursday 23 April 2015

Ipswich, Beenleigh, Caboolture and Sunshine Coast line trains are delayed up to 20 minutes in both directions due to a signal fault at Bowen Hills.

Well done TransLink for announcing this 90 minutes after the issue occurred!
I was waiting for the 11:16am train from Bowen Hills to Ferny Grove. The train was already running about 5 minutes late thanks to QR's  odd policy of running all trains on one set of tracks during the daytime for maintenance (which always causes delays without fail). It had a yellow signal and the correct routing lights at Bowen Hills upon arrival, but stayed there, until 11:35am. Trains were likely to be queuing back to Roma Street.

Queensland Rail
2 mins ·
Services are currently suspended in both directions between Petrie and Gympie North due to severe weather.
Water is over the tracks in parts and there is extensive flooding within the region.
We are currently attempting to source rail replacement buses, however due to flooding on nearby roads we have unfortunately been unable to confirm any to run at this stage.
All other lines are currently operating as normal, however we advise our customers to check the TransLink website before travelling and please stay safe.

All lines except Ipswich/Springfield currently experiencing delays of >40 minutes. So at least you can avoid your 90 minute delay on Coronation Drive. :bg:
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

The south pine river appears to be completely covering it's flood plain between Brendale and Bald Hills from what we could see in the dark tonight. One large flat grayish field.

Queensland Rail

https://www.facebook.com/QueenslandRail/posts/982753428409684

Yesterday's wild weather caused significant damage to Queensland Rail's network, particularly on the Shorncliffe and Caboolture and Sunshine Coast lines where there is damage to overhead lines and complete sections of track have been washed out.

We have more than 200 staff out on the network today working around the clock to repair this damage as quickly and safely as possible. Our priority is getting the network back up and running in its entirety for Monday morning commuters.

We would like to thank you for your patience and understanding during these disruptions.

We will keep you updated on our progress with repairs across the network. Please visit www.translink.com.au for the latest service details.

Unacceptable that passengers were just abandoned at Caboolture at midnight.  At a minimum, the stranded passengers should have been offered the protection of the station with the toilet facilities, and perhaps a security presence either QR staff or other security personnel.  Attempts could have been made to then eventually get transport for their onwards journeys.

Sunshine Coast Daily --> Rail spokesman recounts last night's commute from hell

QR claims every effort was made to make us comfortable... seriously?

No food, no water and attempted warm shelter refused to cold, hungry, tired passengers who'd be stranded for 3 hours at that point in time. Eventually departed station after 5 & 1/2 hours.
No Queensland Rail you failed BIG time.

Mine isn't the only account of the care factor applied to us.
There are many others.
You can find them in my twitter feed!

I have today written to the Minister, the Hon Jackie Trad MP, seeking a meeting with Queensland Rail's CEO, Ms Helen Gluer, TransLink's CEO, Mr Neil Scales and with the Minister to address the issues and ensure that they never happen again.

Denial of the problem is NOT an option.

Hi FF.  Mr Neil Scales is the Director-General Department of Transport and Main Roads,  Mr Stephen Banaghan is the Deputy Director-General TransLink  (= TransLink CEO).

Yes, it certainly could have and should have been handled better IMHO.

At this stage looks like only section out is the Caboolture - Elimbah on SCL.  I just heard a couple of freight train movements through Bundaberg so this is a good sign, hopefully this remaining section on the SCL might be open later today.  It will be handy if it is as trains will have to be positioned for tomorrow's peak later today if possible.

Shorncliffe still out.
