1.07pm Bowen Hills to Springfield Central train running express Darra to Ipswich...

That's a neat trick!!

Yeah I was actually on this train (it was promoted as Express Roma Street to Darra and then all stations to Springfield) - checked translink website all clear no issues, walked to Roma Street, arrived on platform 8 at 1.10pm - Ipswich train supposed to arrive at 1.00pm turned up at 1.15pm and was pretty full... so given the crowding on the train and that the Springfield train was showing that it was to arrive in 1 minute .i.e. 1.16pm ...and that there was no indication that there were any network issues I didn't board and waited for the Springfield train..... rookie mistake to believe translink and QR boards.... so at 1.25pm an announcement over the speakers that the Springfield train would be 10 minutes late (one and only announcement) ... so at 1.38pm the Springfield train turned up and travelled express to Darra arriving at approximately 1.55pm ... so I alighted and did the extensive platform swap at Darra from Platform 1 to Platform 4 and then caught the 2.07pm from Darra back to Oxley...lesson learnt !!

James was actually travelling from Bowen Hills to St Lucia at that time - musical platforms going on at Bowen Hills. Had just missed the train to connect with the 411 in the CBD. Train was sitting at P1, assumed it was the Beenleigh train, when in fact it was just sitting there (no idea what it was doing). Beenleigh train came into P3, ran as scheduled and arrived into Roma St around 1:36pm or so. Then caught a bus to KGSBS, when I connected to the 1:44pm 412. Walked from the nearest BUZ stop to my destination (about 1km), by this point I wasn't really interested in stuffing around with connection at UQ or waiting for the 411.

There was the option of using the Ipswich all-stopper which was scheduled to be just behind your Springfield express, although I thought it could have been an issue Roma St - Corinda and I was just better off using a bus and minimising connections/exposure to rain.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

Delays on the north side this morning. There's a failed unit sitting in platform 3 at Eagle Junction. No updates from TransLink until a few moments ago.

The Ipswich train that usually arrives at Roma Street at 8 am, was about 7-8 mins late this morning. Would this failed unit have been the cause of this delay?

My wife was meant to catch the cancelled 7.34am from Petrie, so caught the following train. That was then delayed by the broken down train at Eagle Junction.

No warning about the cancellation at Petrie, but the guard on the train she did catch advised them of the issue and that they would have to share line 1 (I suck with the correct terminology) with the Shorncliffe trains.

She was about 20 minutes late work after missing the usual bus at Roma St.

Maybe we should have a geomap of where the faults are happening to see if there is a pattern. There seems to be a regular occurrence of faults - all systems have faults and failures, but this seems rather common.

And the reporting of ' faults ' is not consistent.  Most issues are actually telemetry failures ('signal fault/track fault') rather than a problem with track or signal itself etc.  Cracked rails, failed point motors are a less common occurrence.

And I have suggested a number of times that the real cause be reported.  I mean the public must think the track and signals are in a very shoddy condition.

I dare say this mite be more of a case of the work over the weekend I drove past and they were putting new turnouts in on the city side so the different signal connections may be a bit off

QuoteBrisbane trains: Commuters face lengthy waits as services into CBD delayed by fallen power line at Bowen Hills
Tue 17 Mar 2015, 7:14am

Brisbane train commuters are facing delays to their morning journey after a fallen power line at Bowen Hills disrupted services to the CBD on the Ferny Grove line.

Queensland Rail spokeswoman Rebecca Maschi said a power line was down at Bowen Hills and tracks had been reduced from six tracks to four.

Ms Maschi said buses were being used.

"We're having to actually shuttle people on the train down the Ferny Grove line to Mitchelton and then we have a bus taking people from Mitchelton all the way through to Roma Street, but all other lines are still moving," she said.

Translink said on its website that all train lines were suspended in both directions between Milton, Albion and South Brisbane stations.

It said the trains were delayed due to running at reduced speed through the CBD corridor after the overhead powerline issue at Bowen Hills station.

Translink said commuters could expect delays of up to 45 minutes on all train lines.

QR is doing a great job despite the mammoth task it faced this morning.  My service between Boondall and South Bank was only 15 minutes late - and 5 of that was due to it arriving late at Boondall.  AND it was a 3-car service.  (I don't think enough trains were getting out of the city so they had to split a 6-car train.)  We even had to switch to Up Main (platform 3) through Bowen Hills and back to Up Suburban (platform 1) through Fortitude Valley.

The worst part was overcrowding.  Us Shorncliffe Line customers aren't used to overcrowding on trains.  ;)
