Like James I personally want to see the major corridors fixed up first. There is massive... just massive amounts of waste happening there to the point where a few of us had an entire page of a thread dedicated to the BT conga lines across the northern, western and eastern network.

Quick question. Have you ever used the 77 at different times and then the same trip via the CBD SR? Peak hour particularly.

No, but that is hardly relevant.  If you kill the 77, which is already a marginal service, you have buses immediately available to run more 230s, or 359s, or whatever.  Loss aversion for this service would be negligible, and there is not a single stop on the route which is not already served by multiple frequent services on existing other routes.  Like I said, it is a luxury and it baffles me why people are fighting for it when there are so many other better uses for the resources.

And therein the issue lies. How can you fully comment about a route if you have never used it or know its full potential if it was marketed correctly. All you are doing is scrapping one bus route but ignoring the more serious issue across multiple corridors that could provide more services for 325/335/337/338/350/357/359/369 and potentially providing more areas with new services or other routes that need that extra boost during peak hour. Even this very afternoon I saw a 344 with only the driver onboard and this was before it was at Aspley. As I have said previously. Off peak the 77 has minimal time savings and I don't see much need for that but during peak hour is where it's a gold mine when it comes to time savings. If you can nail the transfers you can get to Zillmere station by bus faster than train from Canon Hill. Chermside-Sunnybank Plaza is easily done in 45 minutes yet the JP has a 1h5m transit time. You can easily leap frog onto earlier services. If capacity is an issue during peak hour then get the right buses running. Basically every time I drive home in the morning I see a 336/337 being done by one high capacity bus yet when I get to the Aspley interchange its full of these tiny little buses. Same thing during the day. 345's would be at standing capacity in the afternoon yet when I get to Albany Creek I see one of those brand spanking new ultra high capacity buses doing a 338 run with about 5 people onboard.

Well, at least there might be a few more people on these empty buses then.

SurfRail

^ I rarely do this, but seriously - TLDR.

No unique bus stops left without service - tick.

Low frequency - tick.

Higher priorities elsewhere - tick.

Originally introduced as a political gimmick - tick.

The presence or not of other waste in the network is not germane to this route in light of the above.  God only knows how many extra  338s canning this would fund.

Easy. You look for indicators of success/failure. Has every TL member of staff travelled on every single bus route that is under their control? Doubt it.

Any bus can be full in peak hour. Even 105 Yeronga, 416 Toowong, 161 Paris Hilton Rkt gets full load in peak hour I am sure. The new RBOT 77 runs on the surface where demand generators exist.

If the bus were redeployed elsewhere, it would also be full. Decision needs to be taken on other grounds. IMHO 77 was a gimmick to help sugar up selling the car tunnel, probably designed that way because BCC had control of BT and the Lord Mayor was all too keen to associate himself with the tunnel project until it turned out to  be a case of The Emporor-has-no-clothes Lemon. Putting the bus in the tunnel transit washed the project 'Look, there are benefits for PT too!' when really the central focus was increasing car usage. Same deal with The Legacy Way Tunnel - 'Oh, look 2000 daily express buses using the car tunnel!'. (Interchange at Indooroopilly and all day express rail pattern would achieve exactly the same effect without spending $BN on the tunnel).

The original reason for the service now gone (selling car tunnel, BCC politics), everyone is having loss aversion reactions. The New Bus Network proposal will keep 77 but redesign it for max patronage.
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

The funny thing is that no 4xx BCC bus is full in peak hour aside from the buses going to UQ (412s to Toowong and 427/428/432s to Indro). Some of them are carrying barely half seated loads. 'Rocket buses to Kenmore' should never be a thing until we get PT usage in this area to a level which can at least possibly fill one bus in core peak.

I have made my complaints about the LDT 77 before, so I won't restate them, but it is not capturing any of the current 77's market, that's one thing. The current 77 runs on 15 minute frequency in peak - better frequency than almost any 4xx route which isn't a BUZ. Off-peak it is a bit of a lemon - but cutting it/re-timing it to line up with UQ class times would cover that.

I would rather attack the low hanging fruit first, then look for higher efficiencies if they are required. As I have said before, and I will say again, in a connective network, I think the 77 will be far more successful, thanks to there being more benefit using a 77 to get to the southside vs. 333 + 1xx (for example).
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

Add the 325/335/357/359 to that list. Really the only buses that get full across Brisbanes northside are the 330/333/340. Outside of that.....

EMU stopped at the northbound signal just before the road crossing at Narangba (boom gates up no lights flashing) - didn't see if it had passengers but likely as people where on the platform.

Three QR uses parked outside cabinets northside of station where the signal gantry is. This was about 4.30pm. All clear when I came back passed before 6pm.
