QuoteNorth trains could terminate at Ekka, people could then walk across to the RBWH busway.

No dice. Private property. RNA will charge a nice fee.

QuoteThe central section could be strengthened - place the whole section under cover/underground. Overseas trains use third rail for reliability - doesn't get knocked down like OHT can. Also, Perth uses overhead rigid conductor rail (basically a rail stuck to the roof). Much more reliable than wires which can snap.

Silly idea. Trains can still run with water over the tracks. It's the risk of damaging the electronic components on the train (you think the amount of copper that bloke stole on the Nambour line was a lot, he would have had a field day underneath a single carriage of an EMU) and the risk of trackside infrastructure playing up is the reason that trains don't proceed when there is water over the tracks.

IIRC from what I heard Brunswick Street station has issues with drainage from the streets above. If it's really heavy combined with rubbish and debris it's enough to backlog the stations drainage. Because it's lower its the first to flood as the water pools quicker.

Quoteno amount of alternative bus network proposals could have avoided yesterday.Bottom line is though...many people made it home earlier yesterday thanks to BT...really no other way to put it...
Definitely not the people on the northside  :-r  Many routes had nothing turn up due to "buses not actually being available". A good number of BT buses from the Eagle Farm depot were stuck at the depot or on KSD due to flooding either going to do peak hour runs or to return for driver changes/refueling.

A picture sent to me yesterday from KSD.

Some didn't even make it out or continue their runs. About 8 or 9 of the Eagle Farm buses were stuck going nowhere between two flooded sections on KSD from what I have heard. That's not counting the road being under water at the bus depot entrance :P I can't share but I saw a pic of a bunch of buses from the Eagle Farm depot obviously heading out to do peak hour runs (couldn't uturn as the buses are too long) were stuck due to flooding at various points blocking inbound and outbound traffic (the road was flooded at the railway line so all city bound traffic was forced to u turn to go back onto the Gateway/Southern Cross Way and they had a backlog with traffic coming off getting stuck in it. Further out towards the Gateway the road was flooded with traffic backing up in both directions. So it was a uturn at a flooded road to head back towards a flooded road to do a uturn to go back to the same flooded road. Cars that went through the flood water were lined up along KSD at both ends blocking lanes after getting water in their engines). Doomben-Airport way had a huge backlog apparently due to multiple man hole covers being dislodged. Hendra/Ascot/Doomben was backlogged as a result of people rat running around the floods and railway infrastructure playing up. Sandgate Road had a prang so traffic backed up. From what I saw the lights weren't working at many intersections around Aspley and Albany Creek. From what i was told Geebung had blackouts due to trees falling on power lines. Buses returning from the north to the Virginia depot had issues accessing the depot as their intersection had no traffic lights working. Apparently the hourly 335's were still at standing capacity leaving Chermside at 7.30pm which would have to be a first :P

Briz, with all due respect, the only reason you seem to have gone against this review is the "don't cut my bus" attitude you have taken to Route 390.
As previously stated, BrizCommuter does not use the 390 any more. However previous use has seen that it serves a different market to the Ferny Grove Line and 345, and dropping it would inconvenience a considerable number of users (particularly students and school kids). There is a reason why TransLink did not remove it their review. BrizCommuter has also commented favourably on other aspects of the bus review.

It should be noted that the Ferny Grove Line has been suspended twice in the last three weeks during BrizCommuter's commute, and on both occasions the 351 saved the day.

@htg amazing pic....looked worse than rocklea :co3

yesterday i had to direct a stuck passenger @ salisbury station who resided in bald hills and of course he usually takes the train..Told him to avoid ipswich rd/evans rd buses as it will only end in misery....
So we both did the 125 o/b 120i/b connection @ orange grove rd to get to the cc...he then had to try his luck with a bus to chermside then a 680 to bald hills...hopefully he got home within 4 hours  :P

HappyTrainGuy

It took what seemed like 35-40 minutes to do Chermside-Aspley. Might have been more as I lost track of time when I stopped to pick up some food for dinner. I think the lights must have been out on Beams Road or Zillmere road as it was chaos around the Aspley Hypermarket/Gympie Road area.

Mrs Otto was stuck at Manly for 50 minutes. I had to drive to Manly to get her. We had organised a dinner date at Tomato Bros, Ormiston.
Her train was the first to get stuck. Stopped just short of Lota, then had to return to Manly to alight all passengers.

TransLink have indicated that go cards will be auto-adjusted for any fixed fares resulting out of yesterdays disruptions.

seems there was quite a bit of pressure on the facebook page with one commuter back and forthing translink on why they should do the auto adjustments....mission achieved on that commuters part...
the translink facebook page really is one of the better things to come out of public transport this year...

TransLink do auto-adjustments routinely after melt downs now.  Have done a number of times.

Yo, good on them for the FB presence.  It gives some great feedback.  Might help in the end to get TransLink rightly running the show.

Feedback from a punter, makes a very good point.

QuoteIn regard to the comms from QR yesterday. You would think they could at least over ride the screens at stations to say there are major delays. Eagle Junction at 9.30pm last night had the usual departures and arrivals scrolling through when it evidently wasn't the case. And yes there were people walking around wondering what was happening, using the emergency phones to get information. Not everyone is on twitter and facebook. Cheers
Tend to agree. I got stuck at Central, and they at least had screen all black and some stating the network was shut down due to the weather. Not sure how customisable the older PID screens are - I caught a 390 to Mitchelton and the PID screens there were still displaying what I think the normal service were but talking to the station staff told me nothing much was running.

I think if you have a full TV screen PID, they should be able to provide more info than just that the network is shut. On the upper concourse where they have the large array of screens that usually show all the next services etc, the vast majority were blank with only a few showing the closed message. With that many screens I think they should be able to display extra details such as potential alternative bus services to where trains were running, or those that mirror different train lines.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Can't help it when all the cr%p from the valley above clogs the drains with rubbish and the water backlogs into the station. Because the station is open the water just pours down and starts flooding the station.

QuoteThe "more competent government" vote

This is what BrizCommuter would like to see,  a state government will the balls to:

Completely revise the fare structure to increase public transport patronage and fare box revenue.
Buy enough trains, rather than enough for what was required 5 years ago.
Install ATP, and replace guards with more train drivers, and provide more train services with the same staffing costs.
Completely re-design Brisbane's bus network to make for a more efficient use of tax payers money. Privatise Brisbane Transport whilst you are at it.

http://brizcommuter.blogspot.com.au/2014/08/brizcommuter-special-fare-decrease-vs.html

None of the comments I've heard so far changes the basic underlying geometry or economics. If you insist on direct service then you will have lower frequency/other parts of the city miss out. This is true, irrespective of whatever the purpose or intention is.

Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

Queensland Rail
3 hrs

Update 5: Trains have begun to resume through the CBD, however they are not stopping at Fortitude Valley station due to extensive storm damage at the Valley Metro Building, above the Fortitude Valley station.

Limited services have also returned on the following lines:

Ferny Grove line:
• Limited services have resumed between Roma Street and Ferny Grove.

Caboolture/Sunshine Coast line:
• Limited services have resumed between Roma Street and Nambour.

Shorncliffe line:
• Limited services have resumed between Roma Street and Shorncliffe.

Ipswich line:
• Limited services have resumed between Corinda and Rosewood.

Gold Coast line:
• Limited services have resumed between Kingston and Varsity Lakes.

Buses continue to replace trains where possible.

Our crews will continue to work hard throughout the night to resume all services to normal.

The damage to the rail network due to this evening's storm has been extensive, and it is unlikely that the whole network will be restored in time for tomorrow morning's peak.

For this reason, we ask that our customers check the TransLink website before they travel in the morning.

Significant damage has been caused to the network including rooves in the overhead wires at Moorooka and Toowong, two large fallen trees in the overhead power lines at Milton and power lines down at Moolabin.

We thank our customers for their understanding as we work to return the network to normal and get them safely on their way.
