Travelled by Railbus yesterday Toombul - Fortitude Valley. Couldn't touch on at Toombul, so ended up touching on at Fortitude Valley. Bus was running mostly on time (and bypassed Bowen Hills, not that I'm complaining, its a bit of a nothing destination). I needed to run for my connecting Richlands train, but I made the connection. Bus driver was waving people on telling them that it was free. I justify my 'fare evasion' on the fact that:
1) By the time I got home, it would have been the same fare.
2) I'm on my free trips.

I think one thing which does need to be fixed up is that the buses need to have a sign telling people where they're going. A LOT of people asking 'does this bus go to the City?' While it is somewhat obvious, I think it'd be much better if people could just read and see that the bus is going to the City, rather than having bus numbers and codes. Not user friendly. Another thing I couldn't help but think of is wheelchair access. If we were truly a smart state we'd use DDA compliant BCC buses, but no, we live in Queensland and we can't do that.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

#Metro

Yes, that is irritating. I saw rail replacement buses yesterday they all seemed to be high floor and no-one was on them. Also the buses looked ancient.

I think the victorians put the destination and "rail replacement" rather than just "rail bus".
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

I'm more of an advocate for standard routes and route numbers for each line.

Destos might actually cause dramas if people ignore the fact that there are multiple services with different stopping patterns. i.e. Somebody travelling between intermediate stations assuming that 'City' will just stop at every station.

Driver can just announce at a certain stop that the bus will be running express to the CBD stopping only at ______ when they get to that stage. I travelled from Toombul and at every single stop people asked 'does this bus go to the City?'

I don't care whether they call it a RailBus or Rail Replacement (the former rolls off the tongue more easily and states the mode of transit up front), the destination at the very least should be clear.

in most cases that ive used the railbus...I find that its the courteous drivers/station attendants who ask me where im going...

Yeah, certainly. All good ideas.

I would still go the full distance and implement standard routes for rail replacements, though. I believe this is what is done in Perth.

Golliwog

It might depend on the station/station staff but I've seen the A-frame outside Wilston station during a rail closure having the bus route code for the bus that stops there. I think that however may be because all the buses travel past Wilston during the closure, but the express ones don't stop, which causes confusion/irritation to those waiting.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I don't think the Perth method of having really only one service per line would be optimal for us.  Too many stations.

There needs to be greater standardisation though, and buses with destination displays need to have more information than "RAILBUS 52".  Passengers should be the priority, not marshals.

There was an incident on the Richlands/Ipswich line this evening which meant there were no trains for over half an hour for some passengers. I think it was mainly due to an issue which required police attendance at Auchenflower, but it seems strange that it proceeded to prevent inbound trains from arriving at Toowong. Or more importantly, that no announcements were made, and that the updates on the TransLink website were not comprehensive.

Thankfully I was just heading to the CBD, so I scurried across to the Toowong stop and caught the 411. Anyone know what was happening?

Not advocating one route per line. Advocating standard closures and therefore a standard suite of rail replacement routes.

So when there is a track closure on a particular line, regardless of where the trackwork is actually occurring, the entire line or the same line sections are always closed. For example, if you split each line into 2 or 3 zones, regardless of where the trackwork is occurring, the affected zones would be closed and standard rail replacement routes utilised, scheduled and routed to maintain a minimum level of service.

There would still be various routes which bypass particular stations - as is the case currently. However it would be the same routes for every closure.

Standard routes may also allow for flag stops to be erected outside stations, specially marked for rail replacement services and contain clearly marked route information with indicative times.

I believe there was a bridge strike around there somewhere yesterday evening.
