Airport and Gold Coast line delays

Last updated: 3.07pm Monday 27 May 2013

A truck has struck the rail bridge on Annerley Road at Dutton Park. Inbound and outbound Gold Coast and Airport line trains will divert using the Sherwood/Tennyson Loop.

The following trains are affected at this stage:

the 1.48pm Varsity Lakes to Airport train
the 2.28pm Airport to Varsity Lakes train.

Customers for stations between Yeerongpilly and Roma Street will need to change trains at Roma Street or Yeerongpilly for a Beenleigh line train.

Bridge inspectors are en route. Customers can expect delays of up to 10 minutes.

Beenleigh line trains are unaffected.

Huh?  If the Beenleigh line trains can get through then surely the Gold Coast ones could.

SurfRail

I suspect that by taking the Gold Coast trains out, they can run wrong road along the third track.  My guess would therefore be that it hit the "main" bridge and not the one carrying the DG track.

Hello QR,
I noticed that there was no information issued on two Caboolture line delays, in the last 2 working days, one on Friday evening and another this morning.
1.
This morning, Monday 27 May, 2013 inbound on the Caboolture line as a result of a signal fault at Bray Park.
The driver required manual clearance (paperwork) for the service to proceed.
2.
Friday 24 May, 2013 The 5:24pm Roma Street to Nambour train was delayed by broken down Caboolture train ahead of them.
This resulted in a delay of 25 minutes to those passengers.
Passengers reported seeing the 5:44pm Gympie North ICE train pass them whilst they were waiting behind the broken down train just south of Morayfield station.

No mention or record of these delays on either the TransLink Twitter feed, Queensland rail Twitter feed or the TransLink website.

I understand delays occur but non reporting of them is not good for customer service.

Went through just before (Ferny bound circa 16:10). Airport train went through Park Rd, slightly late.

Crawled over the Annerley Rd bridge on the 3rd track. There's a truck on the side of the road under the main bridge, southern side.

Platform 3 at South Bank, then Platform 1 (!!!) at South Brisbane.
Platform 6 as normal at Roma St.

The response:
Queensland Rail Good afternoon (name withheld), information about all delays is shared by Queensland Rail with Translink (and media) on quarter-hourly basis in the AM and PM peak directly from our control centre.
The decision to publish delays to customer more broadly through media, the Translink website and social media (which we retweet) is made by Translink depending on customer impact, particularly if the people affected will only be the people on the individual service.
We'll pass on your feedback for Translink, but if you wanted more information about why Translink do or do not publish particular services you may need to contact them on 13 12 30.

One can understand why a cancelled MGLD bus wouldn't make the dispatches, but if it is a train that is running very infrequently, it should be broadcast.  I mean one could be sitting on Traveston rail station waiting for the GympieLander and it is a no show?  How will one know??  :o :frs:

By monitoring twitter and checking the web site.  Yes I know you can ring 131230, but really how useful is that if the primary comms media is not advised.

In this case it was an inbound train next stop Northgate, which is far more frequent than MGLD.

Police incident at Keperra station. We're being held at Oxford Park. Inbound train seems fine, hope to have us moving in 5 to 10 minutes.

This new reporting method hasn't been fully thought through by TransLink (who are the ones deliberately withholding this information).

Given the numerous black spots for communication, and there are many along the NCL route, if passengers are incommunicado due to their stopped train location and their parents or family waiting for them cannot access any information about their service or state ... it's hopeless.

Also the incident where the Caboolture train was broken down in front of the 5:24pm Roma Street to Nambour train, last Friday 24 May 2013, then at a minimum 2 services were affected - not just 1.
This appears to be an excuse not to report incidences along our line.

Fares_Fair

Not entirely sure what happened.

After the delay at Oxford Park, we went as usual to FG. On arrival, what I assume was the train that had the police incident was sitting at the opposite platform with all the lights off. As I was exiting the platform, an unmarked police car with lights flashing pulled into the Samford Rd bus interchange and 2 officers went up to talk to the driver/guard of the delayed service. The driver/guard from my service did a relatively quick turn around, and left the station so the next outbound service could use the same platform.

One thing is for sure, they didn't give up without a fight with this one! The Driver who took it from Caboolture to Nambour empty this morning was working on it for at least 30-40mins trying to get it working! They were going to run it as a 3-car set so that at least something ran, but they started having major problems with the 3-car that was originally working OK! Looks like it finally got the best of them though...!

I was on the service that arrived at Keperra just after 6pm and as far as I could tell, we were the first service impacted by this. However, we were told that it was a signalling fault due to a lightning strike. Our service was terminated at Keperra and the next service came through on the inbound platform, and wrong roaded to Ferny Grove, it also had to wait while they got permission to ignore the red signals, and also had to run slowly through the Keperra-Ferny Grove section.

Nothing on the TransLink website but there appears to be delays heading towards the city from Nundah onwards.

Edit: no announcements advising of delays, except one to say we were at a red signal. Not very helpful!
