I was the first train at Murrarie to be stopped, we were held for around 40mins. Police arrived a few minutes before crews finished working on the boom arm/mechanism.

The Beenleigh line was a person hit at Woodridge, not sure if it ended up being a fatality or not.

At Roma St, platforms 2 and 3 in use, platforms 4 and 5 not able to be used. Track crew affecting track repairs near far points up end.  When I passed through Roma St earlier today, noted 3 trains stabled platforms 2 and 3, including EMU01 on 2.

Well well, EMU01 turned up leading the charge to Ippy for the 1.30pm ex Roma St (only a few minutes adrift - assume the signal issue up north).

Why are there so many LX issues in SEQ?  How many do they have in Melbourne?  What is an international standard?

ozbob

Even with the greater number of LXs in Melbourne, they really do seem to have a lot less issues with idiots driving into boom gates etc.  Still happens but not at the rate here.  No difference really in terms of the setup ..

The 'Queenslander' factor is a major worry ....  something happens to drivers brains north of the tweed ...

The roads here are full of dickheads. Its just that simple. Tougher penalties, better setups (traffic lights for example) and better training when applying for lisences needs to be implimented. Carseldine is a prime example of idiots at their best. Same with Telegraph Road. The lights come on and suddenly everyone is doing 100kph. Carseldine might not be as high prone to incidents but the nature of the road everyone puts the pedal to the metal and floors it across). I remember coming across one fender bender seconds after it happened at Carseldine a couple years back (heading towards Taigum/Boondall) where some idiot had gunned it up the inside lane merging lane (skid marks) only to rear end someone (I assume had started to slow down/stopped at the lights). One side of the level crossing had a Commodore with decent damage to the front minus the front bumper. Other side of the crossing had the modified someone one who actually goes off road land cruiser with the front bumper stuck on to the towbar. Telegraph road really puts the stupid and their brakes to the test. If someone doesn't damage the actual boomgates they have a crash at that intersection directly next to it when they run out of space and mount the traffic island. The amount of glass, shards of red plastic tail lights, car trimmings, wheel weights etc are just everywhere on the shoulders there.

Sent to all outlets:

28th February 2013

Not the full story ...

Greetings,

Peak ontime performance for trains has improved in SEQ.  However, out of peak ontime performance for trains also needs to be made publicly available.  Many disruptions occur outside peak times and these are very disruptive and often add long delays to journey times.  A peak snap shot is not the full picture, is it?  Transperth ( http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/AboutUs/Surveysandstatistics.aspx ) can make available complete data, why not Queensland Rail?

Today, another level crossing incident and bridge strike ( http://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=1862.msg120615#msg120615 ). Clearly, the present campaigns and sanctions are not effective.  Put these idiots off the road absolutely, 12 months first offence, life for a second offence. Full cost recovery and maximum fines.  Not rocket science ...

Best wishes
Robert

Set in train

Quote from: tramtrain on February 15, 2013, 12:01:10 PM
Most news outlets have a road report, would abc consider a transit report. Could start the morning with which trains have no loo, 3 car services, disruptions, bus congestion and delays, any new services etc. maybe ring up translink person and get the report from them e
ach morning on air.

In Sydney (most regularly on the ABC, commercial stations also use this) often the RMS (road authority) has a spokeswoman, Bronwyn Martin from the Transport Management Centre go through the transit problems. Not to the extent of no toilets however.

Reduced railway lines through Taringa

Last updated: 4.30pm Saturday 2 March 2013

A slip at Taringa caused by extreme weather has closed two of the four available tracks through the Indooroopilly to Milton rail corridor.

This does not normally impact on off-peak train schedules (such as the weekend) due to the reduced demand for track capacity, however current track works have pushed Gold Coast and Beenleigh services as well as the usual Rosewood, Ipswich and Richlands services all on to this portion of the line.

Intermittent minor delays may be experienced through this section of the rail network until slip mitigation work in completed which is anticipated to be Sunday afternoon.

Wendy was one of the unlucky one's tonight, on the journey home.

She boarded at Sunshine at 5:11pm.
They then stopped at Carseldine for approx. 10 minutes.
They crawled to Strathpine and then stopped there for approx. 10 minutes.
Train crawled again to Petrie where a wait of 15 minutes ensued.

From Petrie she boarded a bus that ran express to Caboolture, and there were other buses available for all stations.
It arrived at Caboolture at 7:15pm.
She then opted to wait for the Gympie North train (as suggested by the guard), which arrived at 7:47pm.
She caught that train from Caboolture, arriving at Woombye at 8:36pm.

I had it good at just 35 minutes delay.
Really feel for the Wendy's of this world, who then have to drive home after the train.
After a near 3.5 hour journey home, it doesn't leave much room for a life.

Fares_Fair

I agree that the line needs fixing, but I can't sympathise with wendy as no one has held a gun to her head and forced her to live almost 100 km from her employment. Had she jumped in a car it would have been much faster, more reliable and even if it cost more, there might be a reasonable amount of time left over. for the record I used to commute to bris from the gold coast, and then I gave up and moved! We all have choices.

^ Wendy contracted for a service that was not delivered.  If I buy a ticket to a movie and the power fails, I could expect a refund.  The sale of the movie ticket was a form of contract, service paid for, service promised.

We can sue a trandesperson who provides shoddy service or a retailer who sells us a bung fridge or appliance.  Can an entity such as QR be taken before Trades Practices on a charge of failing to provide the service that was paid for?

In Victoria a class action is about to start against a power distributor whose 40-year-old cabling allegedly failed, starting a horrific and deadly bushfire.  What is the difference between a power distributor whose cabling fails, with significant consequences, and QR whose signals regularly fail.

Can SC commuters bring a class action against QR for these regular, and most probably predictable, failures?  Any lawyers out there?

Fares_Fair

I recall looking into just such a point a couple of years ago.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is an independent authority of the Australia government. It was established in 1995 with the amalgamation of the Australian Trade Practices Commission (TPC) and the Prices Surveillance Authority to administer the Trade Practices Act 1974 (TPA) (Cth) (renamed the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 on 1 January 2011). Its mandate is to protect consumer rights, business rights and obligations, perform industry regulation and price monitoring and prevent illegal anti-competitive behaviour.
Source: Wikipedia

I discovered that whilst freight rail was covered by the Queensland Competition Authority, passenger rail services were specifically excluded.
It appeared that cattle were more important than Sunshine Coast commuters.

This from the Queensland Competition Authority website.

Rail
http://www.qca.org.au/rail/

The Queensland Competition Authority regulates below-rail (track) services in Queensland provided by two major operators:

■Aurizon Network Pty Ltd (Aurizon Network), which operates the below-rail coal network in central Queensland and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Aurizon Holdings Ltd More; and
■Queensland Rail Ltd (QRail), which operates the state's below-rail network outside central Queensland. More

The two businesses were separated on 30 June 2010, when the Queensland Government split the former Government-owned QR Ltd in preparation for the sale and public float of Aurizon Holdings (then known as QR National) on 22 November 2010. QRail remains a Government-owned corporation.

Both rail companies must allow other train operators to use their intrastate rail infrastructure in accordance with access undertakings approved by the Queensland Competition Authority, which set out general terms and conditions for the negotiation of access arrangements. Aurizon Network's undertaking also contains reference tariffs for coal train services in central Queensland. QRail's undertaking contains reference tariffs for coal train services on the western system.

The Authority's responsibilities in relation to the Rail industry are to:

■assess and approve third-party access undertakings to Queensland's intrastate rail network;
■arbitrate access disputes;
■enforce breaches of access obligations; and
■assess competitive neutrality.

Nope. QR aren't providing you the service. They provide a private service to Translink who makes it public under the intergrated ticketing. Anyway that goes flying out the window as soon as a replacment bus service is put on.

I challenge sunshine commuters to launch class action against qr and qld gov. I'm sure the courier mail would have a field day. Because I am sure that if commuters know the service its rubbish, then they have no claim IMHO.

You would need to prove in court that the body cycle had reached a point in its functioning that the expulsion of human waste had reached the point of no return, and that this was while the train was in motion.  Lawyers picnic.
