Gotta love that on-time running record for the SCL.

And the ICE's reliability of the past months.  On a average of once a week, either one of ICEs operating the counterpeak shuttles or the daytime Gympielander suffers a "mechanicial fault"

I would hope the rumored proposal of moving some of the ICEs to Central Queensland for charter (mines) work do come to fruition.  At least the ICE would be doing the job it was originally designed to do.

Have to wonder about that one.
Not only does the crossing have Traffic Lights, but also boom gate cameras installed.

Hmm, what do the traffic lights show when the train is approaching?  Ideally, yellow, then red.

Otto

Sequence is, Traffic Lights go to yellow then RED in all directions. After that, then the Boom Gate lights start flashing for 4 - 5 seconds before the booms lower. The two side streets will then have a green left turn arrow that does not affect the rail crossing path.

Interesting.  I wonder what the record of this crossing is?  It seems to have most of the feature which have been suggested.

HappyTrainGuy

Check out the level crossing thread for a PDF for some of the near misses from last year.

ozbob

If there was automatic licence suspension for passing the red flashing lights might be a bit different  too...

Wonder what the near miss rate would be without the the traffic lights??

Also signage for the red light camera ...

PASS RED FLASHING LIGHTS
AND YOU LOSE YOUR LICENCE!

SMILE YOU ARE ON CANDID CAMERA

Wouldn't be too many more issues I reckon ...  time to take the gloves off and get the idiots off the roads ...

Looks like a power failure to the crossings?  They go into fail safe and drop and flash if no power on back up supply power. Possibly a malfunctioning circuit or something  too ..

Yes Yes Yes! I have to travel from banyo to ferny. One part of the issue is resolved.

Golliwog

The woman in the office at Ferny Grove told me that it wasn't just the boomgates he hit, but the overheads as well or something. They had to cut the power to the line. Hence why the other boom gates were down apparently. The line on Samford Rd was back to Settlement Rd when I drove through to the city this afternoon.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.

Trying to find a reason why this would happen, and I can't see a good one.  If the o/b train passing WP at 17:37 were running late, this train wouldn't need to run early by so much if they are planning to "fleet" the 17:37 and 17:51 o/b trains to Cleveland.
