More delays on the Beenleigh/Gold Coast lines this week:

Monday saw two faults in the same position - the single track between Helensvale and Coomera. Signals failed in the morning from the first train, large delays, fixed by 8am. Too late for Brisbane bound commuters.

This was following the weekend of maintenance on the line.

Just after lunchtime Monday, the fault reocurred. Trains were delayed up to 40 minutes. One southbound train was held at Ormeau for fifteen minutes for a train to pass and then again at Coomera for another, so there was a considerable log jam.

Wednesday afternoon commuters were delayed at Beenleigh station with another ambigiously titled police incident that had delayed trains passing through until 5pm.

Huge delays reported by TL (should be on eRail too), all trains 15min delay or more, one service 50mins late, another 35 mins late.

All because of Bethania's level crossing, week after week problems on such a strategic line.

Currently on beenleigh line train stuck at runcorn station. Apparantly there's a delay not sure what though.

good work for keeping us informed.

All 3pm - 6pm delays receive coverage as a matter of fact on 612 ABC and then you have 4BC going out of their way with mentions of level crossing problems as they're on a real crusade about that.

Trains are suspended on the Gold Coast and Beenleigh lines between Beenleigh and Kuraby stations due to a boom arm issue.

Customers can expect delays of 1-1.5 hours while electricians work to rectify the issue.

    Trains from the Gold Coast (Varsity Lakes) are turning back at Ormeau station.
    Train from the CBD are turning back at Kuraby station.

Buses are ferrying passengers between Kuraby and Ormeau to connect the train services.

How does a boom gate come in contact with a gate?  Was it pushed by a vehicle??  No rumour has it the wind pushed the boom onto the wires ... entirely possible, the landing today at BNE was very very rough indeed due to the winds ...

Lift outage: Carseldine platform 3

Due to a machanical fault at Carseldine train station, the lifts on the western side of the station (platform 3) is closed.

Customers requiring lift access should proceed on the train to Bald Hills then return back to Carseldine to access the lifts on Platform 1, which will be operable during this time.

Southbound train passengers have been saved a Friday afternoon headache after crews were able to rectify an issue which suspended services on the Gold Coast and Beenleigh lines this afternoon.

A Translink spokesman said trains were now operating as normal, though customers travelling between Beenleigh and Kuraby stations could expect residual delays of up to 15 minutes.

The delays were brought about by a boom arm coming into contact with overhead wires the spokesman said.

Before the fix, customers were warned to expect delays of up to 1.5 hours.

Trains from the Gold Coast (Varsity Lakes) had been turning back at Ormeau station, and trains from the CBD were turning back at Kuraby station.

Translink had put in place buses to ferry passengers between Kuraby and Ormeau to connect them with the train services still operating.

EMUs were reported to find their way on the Gold Coast Line today as a result of the disruptions.  Passengers treated to the 'screaming jimmy' of the EMU down the 140km/h stretch of the Gold Coast Line.

A couple SMU200/220s have made the trip recently to the Gold Coast. Doesn't scream as much as the EMUs flatout but the double wheelflat on SMU246? would have been interesting to hear at 100-110kph. So too would have been the vibration as a result

4BC mentioned the habitual offender of Station Rd Bethania as the culprit.

One caller suggested the crossing remain closed to traffic when such a problem occurs so as not to disrupt the train service until after peak and have it manned by traffic controllers.

Another suggested police to be rostered on at the crossing as a pre-emptive measure against the causes of gate strike.

There was also a boom gate problem on the Doomben line after 4pm this afternoon. BT buses were receiving 2 way advice on how the route 300 should divert around the problem at Hendra.

I really feel for the high paying commuters on the Gold Coast line, their link with Brisbane is becoming more tenuous by the week.

Critical repair works: Redbank-Ipswich

From 8:30pm until last train on Sunday 4 November, tracks will be closed between Redbank and Ipswich for critical rail maintenance works.

Buses will replace trains in both directions between Redbank and Ipswich.

The offending driver should automatically lose their licence for a year, have double the current penalty paid and be made to reimburse QR for the damage.  Happens a second time - permanent loss of licence and seizure of vehicle (no matter who owns it).

All fatalities are sad.  Time both TransLink and Queensland Rail dropped the 'police incident' and reported matter of factually as for other states.

Service disruption, 'fatality'.  Or service disruption, 'person struck by train'.  This way it is clear to all and the potential impact of the delays.

I agree, the reporting standards have changed to recognise suicides, replacing it being unmentionable for fear of copy cat attempts. Direction to a suicide prevention service eg. lifeline is to be accompanied with such a story.

Bit hard to speculate what the issues are.  Might be complicated by level crossings as well.  Just a signal failure authorities should be able to done reasonably quickly.  Must be a bigger issue.
