No idea what time my train was meant to arrive at Central. I got home to FG around 7.30pm. When I walked into the Anzac Square Arcade from Adelaide St, the PID's said next FG train was 16 minutes away, walking through the lights flickered a few times and coming to the escalator up to Central, the PID's were simply black with the QR logo on all 4 screens and the same for all the PID's inside Central. A few announcements that due to a blackout they were having issues with their PIDs which they were working to fix and we were to listen to announcements as to the arrivals of trains. We were told the blackout had no impact on the running of trains. Other than that, the announcements were poor. They would announce the train before it arrived, but once it was at the platform, there were little or no announcements. Led to a few people coming down the stairs before looking around confused as to whether the train at the platform was theirs or not.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.

^ chances are the daytime Gympielander will now be the usual 6-car IMU substitute (assuming the morning Gympielander 'mechanical issues' is the ICE (again per always)).

Considering that's a rail replacement bus, it really is not good enough. One of the comments I submitted to the bus review was that bus services connecting with trains must have radio contact improved between QR, the bus company and the specific buses on such routes.

A Gold Coast bound train was late into Helensvale last week and as earlier stated here, the 715 most likely drove off empty, its passengers having not arrived.

Ipswich/Rosewood line trains are expected to be delayed by up to 10 minutes at Milton station due to a traffic incident at Park Road rail bridge, Milton.

This is getting beyond a joke. Yet another bridge strike at Park Rd, Milton. There was one on Saturday night as well. These truck drivers need to lose their licence!

Time for trucks of a certain size to be forced to stick to a designated network of roads.  To drive off that network, the driver or vehicle owner pays a fee to meet the wages of someone in a call centre to 'give permission' for the variation.  Because truck drivers do not know what the word 'height' means, they must be asked to provide the height of their vehicle and the route they wish to travel off the designated network. The call centre operator checks the road configuration along the proposed route, then gives a code to proceed.  The driver is asked to give a personal confirmation that he/she has given accurate information about the height of the vehicle and accepts personal liability if their truck damages any road infrastructure along the way.  We must treat truck drivers like young children near a swimming pool - to be watched at all times, and they must have their lifevest and floaties on.

Only sedans should be using that bridge as its only a short clearence of a couple metres. IIRC there is a sign with no trucks allowed infront of it from both directions.

somebody

No trouble with putting up a protecting beam there.

HappyTrainGuy

Pretty sure there is IIRC. Might be one of those steel bars dangling on chains setups.

Well it clearly didn't rip off the roof of this particular truck.  In Google Street View if that is a bar which it seems that it is, it doesn't look very solid.  Is it hinged, perhaps?

HappyTrainGuy

The dangling bars aren't meant to rip the trucks roof off. Its meant to alert the driver that the vehicle is too tall with loud thuds (IIRC there is a minimum height clearence of what your talking about for legal reasons ie injury to the driver/passengers). From what I remember of driving under that bridge there are 4-5 little red cylinder things attached to chains which are then attached to the larger steel beam. Both beams are about 25m from the bridge itself.

More than likely it was a courier or one of those dankly little transport trucks.

Looking at the Street View, if you compare the height of the bridge with the height of the vehicles and the height of the vehicles with the height of the bar, it appears that the bar is much higher than the bridge. The bar seems to be there just to hang the signs on, signs that anyone would notice, one would think. ::)

Issue at or just after Dakabin if I heard correctly.

All fatalities are sad.  Time both TransLink and Queensland Rail dropped the 'police incident' and reported matter of factually as for other states.

Service disruption, 'fatality'.  Or service disruption, 'person struck by train'.  This way it is clear to all and the potential impact of the delays.

I agree, the reporting standards have changed to recognise suicides, replacing it being unmentionable for fear of copy cat attempts. Direction to a suicide prevention service eg. lifeline is to be accompanied with such a story.
