Crazy scenes at Northgate.  Managed to snap a couple of photos before the doors closed:

Overheard some QR employees on the train.  Currently running 18 buses from Kangaroo and 10 from Thompson.

Major delays to Caboolture train services

Last updated: 6.51pm Thursday 11 October 2012

A vehicle has struck the boom gates at Bilsen Road near Sunshine station (between Virginia and Geebung) on the Caboolture/Sunshine Coast train line.

It has also brought down overhead powerlines which have affected the train service.

Train services are currently suspended between Northgate and Bald Hills.

Buses have been organised to transport passengers between these two stations.

Trains to the city from Northgate are delayed up to 30 minutes due to trains turning around and returning back to the city.

Trains leaving the city to Northgate are running on time.

Trains leaving Bald Hills and heading north are running up to 30 minutes late.

Trains inbound to Bald Hills are about 20 minutes delayed.

Additional changes as a result of this incident include:

The Nambour service leaving Caboolture at 7.53pm will now be a 3-car service.
The Nambour service leaving Caboolture at 9.23pm will now be bus transport.

Yes, an ugly run home this afternoon/tonight.  About an extra 2 hours.

Arnz

Slightly OT, but I had to shake my head at the Twitter abuse tonight, despite being told by fellow twitterers and the QR rep on the twitter service that it was a crane/truck that hit the boomgates/power lines at Sunshine.

Fortunately (for her) one of those twitter abusers that was "threatening" to take it to the media over being "mistreated" while continually blaming QR at the same time for something that's not out of their control, didn't post this on facebook, otherwise she would've been torn into shreds by everyone on the QR FB.
Rgds,

I had to get on twitter to see these comments and good god. There are some.... just wow... I don't know what to say.

QuoteWhen one door closes another certainly opens

Hopefully to push you out of. I had a good old laugh at these comments.

Him: "My point to Miss Clarissa is tht QR can't be held to blame"
Her: "otherwise if they aren't you tell me who is!"
Her: "QR so it is QRs fault. #apologyneeded"

Her: "still going to report this and every bad tweet and comment to the media people need to know" (at how stupid you are?? haha).

Her: "I certainly don't feel like smiling when my 40 minute journey has now taken 2.5 hours" (I bet the OH gangs from Albion are going to be happy working all through the night in the cold rain checking wire tensions and changing any damaged masts. Or the drivers that now have to move all these empty sets for morning peak hour tomorrow. Or the crews on Freight trains that are now held outside of Geebung).

One thing that this incident has highlighted is how poor the connecting northern bus network is. Services could have been well utilised in sending trains to Sandgate to transfer to a Sandgate-Strathpine corridor and back into the existing network. The 327 would have been good but remember it terminates just before the Bruce Highway in the middle of nowhere on the opposite side of the radio tower in the arvos  ::)

Caboolture line disruptions

Last updated: 5.09am Friday 12 October 2012
Due to an earlier level crossing incident near Sunshine station, buses will replace trains between Bald Hills and Bowen Hills for the first three servcies of the morning. From 6.30am buses will transport customers from Bald Hills to Northgate where customers can board a train to the city.

Might be worse than that. A mate just called and said no electrics have gone past all night. Gonna be fun with the limited amount of trains on the other side of Northgate as a majority of the rolling stock was positioned for the outbound peak.

Re: Gosh, didn't see it ...

Greetings,

Queensland Rail and passengers have had enough.  Time to act.

Here is a plan.

Immediate -

Increase sanctions for level crossing breaches, disqualification for a year first offence, second life.  Continue education program, particularly heavy vehicle drivers to check all heights and widths of their vehicles and loads and select safe routes.  Prominent publicised cameras to record breaches.

Medium term -

Consider placing of additional modified traffic signals at high risk crossings to augment present flashing lights, signs and booms.  Wacol level crossing is a good example of how this has helped.

Longer term -

Continued accelerated program of grade separation.

Best wishes
Robert

More crazy scenes at Northgate this morning. They're running freight as well which is just compounding the issue.

Yes, but I think they need to move the freighters to clear paths ...  it will take a while to sort it all out ..

Yep. Freighters that were on paths yesterday arvo/overnight and early this morning were really delayed as a result. Only way to clear them was to run them through peak hour.

Yeah - thought that might be the case.  My comment was more an observation than a complaint.  No doubt QR is doing its best to get everything and everyone through.

Why is it always truck drivers?  They're supposed to be "professional" drivers!

Not sure if its been mentioned elsewhere but the Nambour line is out of action due to debris on the track and in the overheads from the strong winds.

Palmwoods-Nambour shut down due to debris on track is now posted up on the TL site.

How many issues do MEL have with their level crossings?

Stillwater

Palmwood-Nambour shutdown due to debris echoes the 'bougainvillea tendrils' incident that shut down the network.  Maybe a trackside vegetation cutback can be scheduled as part of the future maintenance program, without having to sack a public servant to pay for it.

Surely there is already such a program.  It just failed in this case.

There is.  For one of the Shorncliffe Line shut-downs, there was a lot of preparation work during the week before the shut-down (ensuring access, etc) and then during the shut-down, there were workers on the track in some sections and off the track trimming trees in other sections.

Obviously there's a lot more track to cover on the Nambour line!

Judging from the twitter feed, proportionally less than Brisbane I sense ... however I have noticed that often when they do have one it is very serious, eg. car hit or something like that.
