Set in train

I hope the media are onto this for the nightly TV news. It's a quiet news day in general (save for Bathurst), they can afford to cover this today.

ETA: zero mention on Qld news pages of BT and CM/Quest sites. GCB still has yesterday's paper news.

Slap happy comms effort today.  The TransLink web site has the update at 11.29am as still current.

A number of links are dead from the minor updates eg.  http://jp.translink.com.au/travel-information/network-information/trains/gold-coast

http://jp.translink.com.au/travel-information/network-information/trains/ferny-grove

Still has Richlands line out, last update 2.34pm.

Looking at the Queensland Rail twitter feed it looks like trains are running, not much grief around ...

Trains started moving at about 1640 or thereabouts.. I was first train on the scene, a vehicle had struck the eastern side boom and knocked it out of place, so it was catching on one of the overhead wires and wouldn't lower..

Thanks for the update. There has been a bit of twitter traffic suggesting that enough is enough.  Time to stop these incidents.  It might take some severe sanctions, education, continued grade-separation.    I would still like to see more traffic lights on the higher incidence risk crossings as well. Seems to have helped at Wacol.    Standard traffic lights in addition to the rail warning lights etc.  Gee I was impressed at Wacol the other day, not one vehicle moved until the booms were completely up, the red flashing lights stopped and the traffic lights went green.

Time to give it a go, grade separation is a long time coming for most crossings.

Not only should there be full cost recovery for these careless and dangerous acts of irresponsibility, they should also be disqualified from driving for at least 12 months for the first offence.  Second offence life.

Clearly vehicle drivers just don't care.

Time the Minister for Transport and Main Roads acted!

Re: Gosh, didn't see it ...

Greetings,

Longer term more has be done with grade separation (road and rail separated).

Interesting facts:

Melbourne has around 172 level crossings, Sydney has 8, Brisbane 54. A failure to grade-separate network critical crossings is contributing to massive congestion and network issues. An urgent priority for Brisbane is to move forward with grade separation immediately, at least two of the 54 are to be done and that is welcome. More needs to happen however. In Melbourne some level crossings remain closed for up to 45 minutes or so at a time at peaks. Neglect is hurting.

Time to bite the bullet big time!

Cheers
Robert

Where are the 8 level crossings in Sydney?  I can only think of two: Parramatta Rd at Rosehill and down near Campbelltown.

EDIT: I think there might be one at Woy Woy and a few in Newcastle, but I don't count them as in Sydney.

The numbers of level crossings between the three major cities is striking.

Partly topography, but NSW has been a lot more active with grade separation for a long period.

Melbourne is a real basket case, Brisbane not that far behind ..  I think they really do need to do something to stop the constant issues ..

There is damage to some of the mast/wiring supports which might have to be replaced along with the retensioning the cables. Other inspections to transformers/infrastructure also has to be undertaken. QPS will also get priority over the level crossing before they give QR the okay to repair the level crossing damage and the overheads.
