Couriermail --> Gas leak halts trains on Ferny Grove line

==============

It is time Queensland Rail and TransLink started to treat their ' customers ' as people with a brain.   Short clear descriptions of the issue is needed not the usual 'police incident' ... if it is a gas leak at Alderley then say.  If it person struck by a train, then say so.  This cryptic bullsh%t is pointless ..

Fares_Fair

Agree, this is just obfuscation of the facts.

Further it is useful in that it would enhance a true 'zero harm' attitude for it's customers.

Is it more to do with a bland (non-media attracting) response?
Having said that anything with 'Police' in it may counter that theory.

Translink staffer retrained as a nurse at a maternity hospital ... talking to man whose wife is heavily pregnant:

Nurse to man:  Your wife has just had a birthing incident.

Man to our retrained nurse:  Do you mean she has given birth?  Is it a boy or a girl?  Is it a healthy baby?  Is my wife okay?

Nurse:  There has been a birthing incident, that's all I am authorised to say.  You could talk to my supervisor, but he/she has been sacked for being a non-frontline state employee.  I am the frontline employee, and the matter is in hand.  You will be advised in due course as further information becomes available.

Stillwater

Its lazy and bureaucratic, QR/Translink staff just don't bother to inquire beyond a 'police incident'.  It's their language that they force on customers.  Is the weather forecaster just interested in a 'severe weather event' or does he/she want to satisfy him/her self that a cyclone is approaching?

ozbob

Check out twitter, I have just challenged them to state clearly and concisely what the incidents are.  See --> https://twitter.com/Robert_Dow Metro does, as do most others.

That way people understand exactly what the situation is, are better managed and tolerant to the delays.

The farcical thing is though, TransLink and Queensland Rail put out  ' delays due to police incident ', radio and press are virtually simultaneously giving out the real reason, be it person struck by a train, gas leak at Alderley, level crossing gates hit or whatever.

It makes them look rather silly.

Pretty funny.

ozbob

Example.  This afternoon the announcer on 612 ABC Brisbane cut in the normal program and said TransLink has just announced there is a police incident on the Ferny Grove line and trains are suspended.  Which was the official notification on twitter. She then immediately added ' it is a gas leak at Alderley ' obviously information from other sources ...

It is not good communication practise, it does make them look stupid, and it further alienates many 'customers' by the displayed attitude.

The other amusing thing is when there are ' services suspended due to police incidents ' as notified by Queensland Rail and TransLink, traffic reporters in their reports are giving the full details, eg. truck has hit the boom gates at Telegraph Road, or there is a wild wombat attacking the point motors at Rosewood or whatever ...

The Queensland Police Service alert all that there is a gas leak but TransLink and Queensland Rail see it only as a police incident.  Apparently this is because "Queensland mental health experts" believe that persons who follow TransLink and Queensland Rail, but not Queensland Police Service updates are obviously going to be disturbed.  Too right they are disturbed, p%ssed off with the lack of information!

All together now, Queenslander!
