This really is becoming a joke. Why is our train system falling apart??

Zero (C)Harm I believe.  Open to correction though.

I am sure around the clock OTP/Reliability data for all lines would be available internally.

Wonder why it is not public?    ::)

the twitter feed from Metro Melbourne is very much a track/signal fault nightmare as well.  I can understand some of the issues in Melbourne to some degree as to my eye the track infrastructure does not look like the better quality track infrastructure in Brisbane.  There has be something wrong with circuits and so forth rather than track faults as such.  The cost of these constant disruptions must be very significant.  Wonder if that would be ever made public?

They used to make it public.  Have they stopped?

ozbob

I am talking all lines around the clock, OTP and reliability line by line.  I haven't seen that.

There are many disruptions happening outside of peak times, which for the majority largely go unnoticed, but properly analysed would no doubt give some indication as to the real issues. The peak time figures themselves seem to be a bit irregular at times as well.  Some days just don't appear, others seem to change.  No summary displayed either, only the last 4 days.  Something to hide?

It is well past a joke, needs a formal enquiry.

It is getting to the point where a compensation regime needs to brought in to compensate for the constant expenses punters are copping, eg. childcare, missed appointments, missed connections and so forth.  There is something majorly wrong with modern day railway engineering, as evidenced by constant circuit/telemetry issues (signal/track faults) all over ...

Trains can't be turned around at Runcorn except running back on the track they came from, unless I am mistaken.  Is that what is happening in this case?

Could these constant delays, disruptions and cancelled trains due to mechanical faults be the reason why Translink's passenger usage numbers are down?  Have people just given up because they no longer can rely on the trains to turn up, or get them where they want to go on time?

Steve Austin, evening presenter on 612 ABC Radio said last evening in the context of a session on why folks don't use PT, said that he uses the train to travel to and from work, I think he travels Gold Coast <-> Toowong, but if he has an important appointment he uses other means as the PT is too unreliable ...

But according to TransLink there is no real patronage fall, all a result of the floods ...

Re: Public transport disruptions

Greetings,

From the Letters to Editor Couriermail today (1st October 2011).  Maybe it is time to compensate the hapless punters not only being messed around by constant rail disruptions but bus meltdowns as well.
It is not unusual for people to wait for up to 30 minutes or longer to be able to get on a bus on the 'showpiece'  Inner Northern Busway at times.  What sort of public transport system have we got?  Shambles ...

Does it reflect a lack of funding to ensure proper and timely maintenance?  We can only wonder ..  whilst waiting for the bus that doesn't show up, and the trains that might run on time if you are lucky.

Best wishes
Robert

Greetings,

The power problems with the rail network yesterday was an unexpected major disruption.  These sorts of things happen anywhere from time to time.
In the USA for example around 10% of power outages are due to birds.  Overall on this count I think we do OK.

Queensland Rail, TransLink and bus operators, traffic staff and others all did a good job under the circumstances, thank you.

We do have some concerns though with the constant mechanical issues with the trains, signal and track faults, as well as some power issues on a smaller scale that have been locally very disruptive of late.
Similarly there are many reports of constant no shows by buses, and many constant bus fulls with long waits by passengers to board buses.  Up to 30 minutes on the Inner Northern Busway!

It is clear to us that public transport is not being adequately funded.

Funding must shift from a road centric future to a sustainable transport future.

As was clearly demonstrated yesterday, public transport is fundamental to a major city.

Best wishes
Robert

Emergency services are currently on scene at Breton Street after reports a car had crashed and was on its roof, with its back end on the tracks, a police spokeswoman said.

Fire crews are attempting to winch the car off the track.

The male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle is thought to have suffered minor arm injuries.

All trains on the line were stopped while attempts were made to move the car.

A lot of motorists and truck drivers should clearly not be on the roads.  They just don't care.  A run down the Ipswich Highway will soon convince anyone of that. Trucks tailgating above the speed limit.  Speeds limits are advisory maximums for ideal conditions, come the wet weather and some of them actually speed up!  At least Queensland Rail and TMR are starting to chase cost recovery.  The missing piece is licence suspensions, three months would be a good start as for Victoria.  That won't stop them all but at least it will send a message.

Apart from the level crossing incident the rest of network has seemed to weather this round of storms.  Mrs Ozbob had no issues heading home to Goodna from the CBD on an Ippy flyer.

A couple of wet days coming up.  I am getting a distinct uneasy feeling that this summer is shaping up as another big one.  These are spring storms ...

Its an easy crossing to knock down as it backs right onto the road (Personally I think this is more dangerous compared to the one between Bald Hills and Carseldine which locals harp on about). Cars/Trucks move across only to find themselves stuck in the middle of a level crossing as the traffic has banked up. When they try to get out of it they just tap the boomgate which is enough force to break it.

somebody

So it was yet another muppett entering a level crossing when unable to leave.

I think QR pursuing through the court isn't the same sort of threat as a reasonable fine either.
