Sunshine Coast train delays

There are major Sunshine Coast line train delays this morning due to an overhead power fault south of Eudlo. Normal services are suspended between Lansborough and Nambour. A train shuttle is running all stations between Eudlo and Nambour, where customers can catch a bus to Landsborough for normal train services. Trains are still running from between Gympie North and Nambour. Linesmen are on site to fix the problem. Customers may want to consider alternative transport as delays of up to an hour will continue through peak.

Affected Services:

  • Sunshine Coast line

Sometimes it just seems that getting someone between Brisbane and Nambour by train is fraught with as much trepidation as putting an astronaut on the moon!

Sunshine Coast services resume

Services have resumed all stations on the Sunshine Coast line following earlier delays on the line, due to an overhead power fault south of Eudlo.

Services between Lansborough and Nambour have now resumed, though customers may experience residual delays while services are restored.

And I had visions of steam returning triumphantly on the Sunshine Coast line ...  :P

At least the old cast iron screw-on lettering stayed there forever.  Judging by his height and stature, I think that's FF's grandfather second from the right in Ozbob's historic pic.  Still only single track to Nambour.  :-[
About four generations of voters, we still haven't convinced the government to upgrade to two.  I wonder how people would feel if the only way they could buy groceries would be at a single check-out staffed by a guy with a pencil behind his ear, wearing an apron and operating a pounds, shilling and pence cash register.  It's the QR/Translink superstore!  :hg

Not just Beenleigh Line delayed. In fact the only announcements I heard at Central were for the Ferny Grove line. The 11.06pm ex-Central to FG was delayed pretty much indefinately (the screen was saying at least 30 minutes away when it was meant to be there). However I talked to a QR guy up at the fare gates who informed me there should be a train much sooner than that, they were in the process of organising one at Bowen Hills.

EDIT: Fixed quote.

Translink knows nothing as yet, but theres been an accident at the Samford Rd level crossing. Boom gates are working fine (I think? My train went through fine, and the train waiting at Ferny Grove left fine), but theres at least 1 badly damaged car inside the gates. My train appeared to be going through just after the accident however, as there was no ambulance, firetruck and no police officers that I could see. They had all arrived by the time I drove back through in my car on the way home, and it looked like the parking of the ambulance would be preventing trains from getting thorugh. A truck appeared to have rear ended the car.

Fair dinkum, with this and all the crap going on over Sunbus services, people's confidence in the reliability of public transport on the Sunshine Coast is being eroded at a fast rate of knots.

Fair dinkum, with this and all the crap going on over Sunbus services, people's confidence in the reliability of public transport on the Sunshine Coast is being eroded at a fast rate of knots.

Time Translink and the Minister showed some guts and responsibility and terminated the Sunbus contract for failure to provide the contracted service.

The Government and Translink have a couple of choices for the replacement of services
1. A takeover of the existing government owned vehicles and the currently employed drivers as an intrim measure while tenders are called for another operator to step in and take over the contract.
2. Suspend all Sunbus operations on the Sunshine Coast and bring in other operators on a route by route basis as an intrim measure while tenders or expressions of interest are called to assume the operation of the services under a new contract arrangement.
There would be two effects, the first would be the resumption of Sunshine Coast bus services, the second would be that such a move would serve notice on all operators and service providers that a SERVICE contract requires that the service contracted be provided.

There were disruptions on the Cleveland line approx 4:30 to 5:00 pm due to a police incident at Wynnum North Station. An EMU was stopped across the level crossing at Wynnum North and Police and Rail Security with a dog were in attendance. I was diverted around on my 223 service.
Other trains were held at nearby stations until the line was cleared for safe-working.

Gold Coast line this evening showed the usual bloodymindedness QR has when something goes wrong.  All trains terminated at Kuraby, and the first train to proceed south is a Gold Coast train - which did not stop on the platform to pick up the hundreds who needed it.   :pr

According to TL's website there was a power failure in the CBD earlier.

If we had CRR I doubt the delays would be as severe  ;D

How so? I'd imagine they'd be running from the same power grid that currently serves the inner city line.

Maybe not - being subsurface it would need its own feeders and would presumably be able to be isolated (unless there was a problem on the northside approach to town which is a different kettle of fish).
