Shorncliffe Line delays

Shorncliffe Line services may be delayed up to 30 minutes due to a traffic incident at the St Vincent's Road railway crossing in Banyo.

ABC 612 reports that this is because the boom gates have been struck.  Not that it wasn't assumed.

6:14am Nambour to Roma Street arrived at Central Station 10 minutes late this morning.
No explanation was given for the delay which is inappropriate.
We were held up at Glasshouse station, the first station immediately north of the Beerburrum bottleneck, for a passenger train to come through to us.
We also observed a freight train waiting at Glasshouse Mountains station when we did get through.

This service was also crowded with about 30 standing per carriage from Petrie into the CBD.

Fares_Fair.

Shouldn't the counter peak service be held at Beerburrum for the peak service, especially if the counter peak train is the late running one.  The timetable doesn't show any such train, so it is likely that it was an empty.

Where was the freight though?  There can't have been two trains in the loop at Glass House, unless one was after the other.

Seems cleared quickly.  A significant number to train breakdowns of late though.

Morning to forget on city's trains

QuoteMorning to forget on city's trains
June 20, 2011 - 8:37AM

Train passengers from both north and south of the city had their morning commutes interrupted by erroneous reports to police this morning.

Gold Coast Line services were suspended between Ormeau and Coomera due to a police incident which later turned out to be a hoax.

Delays of up to 30 minutes were being expected at 8.15am.

Meanwhile, services on the Caboolture Line have resumed after reports of a fire on one of the lines turned out to be mistaken.

TransLink was reporting residual delays of up to 30 minutes at 8.15am.

MAJOR DELAYS: Mitchelton Station: Boom gates down (crews appear to be on site). Started at least at 3:30pm and was still happening when i went though at 4ish.

I do like the fact that the only police officer that was around was at the third set of boom gates not near the station (going towards ferny).

The only alert I could see about it was: "@TransLinkSEQ: Residual delays on route 360, 361, 362, 390, 598, 599 due to boom gate malfunction at Mitchelton. See http://bit.ly/lcMYTj"

All i'm going to say is that I'm glad I remember to grab my GPS before I left home :p.

p858snake

just noticed this on twitter:

Quotesquashedpeaches: @QueenslandRail some alerts about the mitchy boom gates would have been nice :p
QueenslandRail: @squashedpeaches Our advice was that a minor track fault affected the boom gate causing very minor delays. Apologies
squashedpeaches: @QueenslandRail minor delays on osbourne rd in peak?lol esp with 2 boom gates dn and police only at the 3rd one which was open but flashing
squashedpeaches: @QueenslandRail also "minor delays" is was at least happening for 30 minutes before i got to the first gates then sitting about 10 at that set and another 5 at the second gates so that's at least 45 min of traffic delays
QueenslandRail: @squashedpeaches With all track faults/incidents, boomgates go down as a safety precaution & won't go back up until police manage traffic

So if there is a track fault which means services will already be cancelled on the line anyway, what's the point of lowering the gates like that?

It is a FAILSAFE situation. ie: If there is a fault, the system will fail in the SAFEST POSSIBLE WAY/SAFEST POSITION!

A great example of this was when UTC failed a couple years ago.

Great.  I was too slow getting the phone out and putting in the PIN.

To clarify, the car wasn't actually ON the tracks.  It was no more than about half a metre away from the actual track.  Trains probably would've missed it, but it's not something you'd want to risk.  There was a train "stuck" on DM just before the car.  It had "DEPOT" as the destination.  Not sure if this had been a revenue service or an empty heading out to do a run in.

How do some people get their driver's licence?

For some comes in their coco pops packet some dont bother and think they can drive anyway and some are no longer able to drive but continue to do so despite the risk that they pose to other members of the public AND THEMSELVES
