With yesterday afternoon's train delays due to the bridge collision, it's interesting that they never mentioned the Ferny Grove (or even Airport Lines) as being delayed. I travelled from Newmarket Village to Upper Kedron leaving around 5:30pm yesterday and looked up on Anytrip seeing delays of up to 20 mins for some outbound services, leaving odd service gaps and even delaying inbound services from Ferny Grove. Even the train I got on at Enoggera (beginning at Roma St) was around 7 mins late. I noticed an inbound service leaving Ferny Grove 14 mins late at around 6:15pm, yet no notice about these residual delays.

This means I got to Ferny Grove Station at around 6:11pm (9 mins after the 6:02pm 367 service), leaving a 21 minute gap between services. What's worst is that the 6:16pm 397 service to Arana Hills left even though another train was arriving into the platform! Sure, a 15 min wait until the next 397 isn't that bad (particularly in this area of the bus network) but surely a little common sense could go a long way here just waiting that extra minute. And then the same thing happened with the 6:32pm route 367 I was on. Even though it was the last of the day, it still left as another late train was pulling into the platform.

The thing I really wanted to point out was just how shambolic the frequencies and span of hours these feeder services run at (I know Ferny Grove isn't an isolated example too)- the 367 runs every 30 mins from Ferny Grove after 4:30pm (except for the additional 5:17 service) and finishes at 6:32pm! So, anyone living in Ferny Grove/Upper Kedron area has to make sure they get that 5:56pm train from Central at the latest (and even earlier from further abroad). But apparently yesterday shows that even that won't guarantee your connection will be made.

No wonder that from the 100-150 or so people that got off my train, 3 got onto the 397, none were waiting for the the 367, a good few handfuls got picked up at the Kiss'n'Rides and the rest hopped straight into their cars! Granted, for those heading to the Samford area, Park'n'Riding is a good option, but for the rest heading into Upper Kedron, I can't blame them for driving.

On the 6:32pm 367, there were 4 others on board with me, which really goes to show how crap of a feeder bus it really is (particularly one with such great potential). And to top it off, this morning, my friend drove us to Ferny Grove Station to get the 9:17am train (getting into the city just before 10am), because yes, even at that time, there is a 1 hour gap between 367 services 8:30am-9:30am . You can see why so many people drive to the station...

I know it's been highlighted before (particularly at Landsborough Station), but when train services are delayed and not even notified, bus connections just fall apart. There needs to be better communication between QR, Translink and the bus operators. The current frequencies and spans of hours of these feeder buses makes it unattractive enough for commuters, let alone the possibility of missing the last service of the day, even at just 6:30pm!

Edit- This is all ignoring the fact that the 367 doesn't run on Sundays at all, AND if you wanted to get from the Great Western Super Centre to Upper Kedron any time after 3:09pm on weekdays you have to:
A-walk to Ferny Grove Station (2.8-odd kms and 40 odd-minutes) and get the 367 from there;
B-walk to Keppera Station (1.5-odd kms and 20 odd-minutes) and get the train to Ferny Grove and change for a 367; or
C-get the 362 to Keppera Station then the train to Ferny Grove then the 367.
All these options take close to an hour, over 6x the travel time by car (https://jp.translink.com.au/plan-your-journey/journey-planner/results).

It is a stuffed system.  If QR did their own service disruptions direct, not having to relay to outsourced TransLink it would be a lot more reliable and efficient.  Every time the pressure goes on the comms fails. Don't get me started on their #hashtag framework ...
