A lot of ' train faults ' lately.  Doesn't auger well for an improved OTR.  I think January and February OTR when made public will not be good.

A lot of people are struggling with using public transport because of the constant cancellations/alterations of low frequency services particularly, which in some cases screws connections as well.

Don't forget these reported service disruptions are only for 10 minutes or more.  Many trains running late < 10 minutes not reported, but these can and do mean missed connections as well.

I am starting to wonder if there is a ' work to rule ' type of action going on.  Weekends the ' train faults ' seem to go away. Maybe it is something to do with the penalties payments.  Back on Monday they reappear.  There are some EB negotiations going on I understand.

Increased incidence of ' train faults ' causing service disruptions

Good Morning,

RAIL Back On Track monitors the reported service disruptions for Citytrain ( https://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=1862.msg233899#msg233899 ).

We have noticed that the number of reported service disruptions / cancellations due to ' train faults ' has been very significant the past few weeks particularly.

Is there a problem with the trains, new and old?  It is reported this morning in the Couriermail that there has been some mould issues with the New Generation Rollingstock trains ( Couriermail --> Mould forces some of state's newest trains off tracks https://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/mould-forces-some-of-states-newest-trains-off-tracks/news-story/fd73608c821e05f4f10635e4337c416a ).

This might explain some of the disruptions but are there other issues? For example is there an ongoing industrial issue?  It is also important to note that only disruptions that result in a delay of 10 minutes or more or cancellations are normally reported ( some are not however ), but it is clear there are issues.

These constant disruptions make it very difficult for passengers to rely on the services, particularly when connections are needed to be made. They might only be 10 minutes or less but can mean missing a bus that only runs every hour or worse.

Action needs to be taken to ensure the train faults are reduced to more acceptable levels.

1/2 Hi Steve, thanks for getting in touch. Last night, the 6.08pm inbound Beenleigh service pictured experienced a train fault at South Brisbane. To allow our crews to safely investigate the fault, the train unit and overhead power line equipment was required to be de-energised.

2/2 During this time, services travelling through South Brisbane were rerouted via Platform 1 to minimise impacts to customers. Following inspections, the unit was safely towed from the station. Hope this helps.

Note it was actually on the 11th.  No service disruption.
