Train delays or cancellations due to track faults and signalling issues continue to feature prominently.  Is there are need to look at the adequacy of resources put towards system maintenance?  Are they sufficient?  Should maintenance cycles be shortened so track and signals are checked more frequently?

HappyTrainGuy

You're looking into an issue that doesn't need to be looked into. You'll find a lot of the time signal issues are just the system defaulting due to safeworking procedures. A fault pops up and someone has to manually clear it before any train can proceed. A fault can be triggered by rubbish blowing, someone tresspassing, animals, points issue, voltage issue, level crossing fault, bridge fault etc. Some can be resolved very quickly by control and other longer delays could simply be as a result of control issuing drivers a written form to proceed through a red signal or until someone can manually inspect the fault. Weekends seem to be more impacted as you have less rapid response crews out (not as many services) and some tracks/platforms are closed for scheduled track work or visual track inspections.

about sums it up......

QuoteEverytime I decide to take public transport there is a delay 😣 So now sitting on the train, goijng nowhere, waiting for approximately 8-10 mins. Will miss my connection. Any wonder I usually drive. If you want people to use public transport it's got to be reliable! Won't bother using the train again. Waste of my time!!!

Bretto1082

The rosewood train was replaced by a 6 car until a fresh 3 car arrived from the city. Signal maintenance is happening every night. You can not preempt when a signal relay or a data card will pack it in and say no when it does they go and replace the relay or card. I can recall once they replaced the same card 4 times before the fault recovered which was caused by a energx issue frying the cards so they put it on a gen set until energx fixed it. A trespasser walking along trips on a track cercit lead then bang track fault with the section showing as occupied it's just that easy to do or even as simple as a 5 cent coin in the right spot and you can have a fault and boom gates activate
