Two tweets were one would do ..

Have the powers to be finally decided to do just a single tweet now as applicable?

Today we have seen a number of tweets eg. the last one that has the service disruption Caboolture to Ipswich ... instead of past practise of one for Caboolture to Central, then another Central to Ipswich.

Hope this is permanent ...   :-t

Yet another rail to bus connection problem

Greetings,

Something really needs to be done with the constant failure of rail to bus, and bus to rail connections.  RAIL Back On Track has raised this a number of times with TransLink but nothing appears to be happening to sort it.

The latest sad example:

https://www.facebook.com/TransLinkQLD/posts/3550063881686318

QuoteSo I got off my train and wow the bus has left without us, were all stranded in Landsborough as there are no other trains or buses. This is unacceptable. The bus needs to wait for the train, it knows alot of people get on. I have to wait and hour and a half. Please fix this it's unacceptable. And while I'm at it the bus at USC always leaves 10 minutes early. If the Translink app says it doesn't leave till a certain time, I shouldn't. I want my trip reimbursed, if I knew the bus was going to leave us I would have driven. No happy!!!!

QuoteI caught the train from Caboolture at 12:28 and was supposed to connect to the 615 bus at Landsborough station. The train was roughly 5 minutes behind and when we arrived no bus. And there is no other buses or trains I could catch to work around it. Nothing until 2:30.

QuoteThe old people are very confused. I can't give them answers because I don't know what's going on.

This is so frustrating, I feel for the stranded passengers.

Best wishes,

Robert

I received a response to this email from the Premier's Office yesterday (12th September 2019).  Basically saying it has been referred to the Minister for Transport.  Interesting that I actually got a response, normally I never get any responses at all.  Sign of the changing electoral environment?   :P

I actually got in touch with the depot.......they are one of the easier depots to get hold of....person answering heard nothing.......but some bus drivers offered up possibilities......either a new driver who did not know that they must contact the station master when they fail to see the train pull in on time...if it hasn't then the station master needs to track the train down by all means necessary and get a status..
Or the station master simply couldn't get a status on the train hence it was the bus driver/depot`s call...

^Or can the driver just check their phone to see where the train is (or some other means of real-time tracking)? Saves the hassle of having to bother others for just such a simple fix. I know arrival screens for drivers outside is the best way to go, but in the mean time, I don't see why they can't use their initiative and check for themselves.

if your talking bout the translink RTT.......nope.....hopeless because of that 'station skipped' idiocy.....ive tried to use the RTT multiple times at petrie to get the status of a late running train so I can choose whether to catch a bus at either Kallangur or petrie....'station skipped' is just as irritating as the 'cancelled' status that you see when your approaching bus goes offline on the real time tracker.

STB

The Station Master or Officer should have access to RTOA (software QR uses to track the trains on the network) in the station office.   Alternatively, the Station Master/Officer can do a quick phone call to Mayne Train Control to find out where the train is.

My guess it was an inexperienced driver who didn't realise he/she had to hang around until the train turned up, and just followed the timetable on his shift pad instead.  It wouldn't surprise me if there was an internal memo sent among the drivers that they are meant to wait for the train after the event.

I had quick look back to the 31 August.  Main cause of disruption as reported ..

Rollingstock issues ~ 40%

Signal faults ~ 21%

Incident involving emergency services ~ 13%

Track faults ~  6%

Bridge strikes ~ 5%

Medical emergency ~ 5%

Then the other causes such as trespassing in the corridor, rostering, train allocation, third party train, congestion, together 10%.
