They could of diverted the buses  at George then Turbot, down Edward Street then back onto Adelaide Street Northbound to avoid the 20min Road closure at King.George Sq.. South Bound left Edward, George back  Adelaide Street. Easy!

Also a big issue in Fortitude Valley with the crowds in Chinatown spilling back on to Wickham & Ann St, slowing traffic to a crawl through here.

All the railbuses got caught in this traffic as well, making the traffic even worse. Dumb weekend to have a full closure of the core of the network IMHO.

I was wondering if this would happen considering the amount of trackwork still happening when I finished work in the wee hours this morning. Usually, they've all packed up and left before midnight on Sundays during weekend closures.

Maybe they need to close the CBD trains more often so they can practice how to do it more efficiently? 
I was stuck in the Wickham st carpark about 8pm as well, Was puzzled to see no police out directing traffic with the awfully short light sequences. And had chuckle to see the bus lane in wickham st full of parked cars

Understand that some sleepers were damaged during the shutdown and this lead to the over-run. 
Things happen, I just wish they would be transparent and direct with their service disruptions.  Melbourne and Sydney sometimes have over-runs with closures, they just simply so say at the time.
