Roads closed, trains late after storm

QuoteRoads closed, trains late after storm
Marissa Calligeros
December 16, 2010 - 3:46PM

This afternoon's violent storms have caused chaos on south-east Queensland roads and public transport network.

The Ipswich Motorway has come to a halt due to a metre of water over the road at Riverview. Traffic is being diverted via Mine Street where possible.

Traffic on the M1 has also slowed to a crawl thanks to an earlier multi-vehicle crash near Marquis Street at Greenslopes.

There was a minor landside on Moggill Road near Rafting Ground Road, which has now been cleared.

Traffic lights have also stopped working across the city due to widespread blackouts.

Power lines have fallen across Penelope Street near the intersection of Lytton Road at Murarrie.

Bus and train services across the south-east have been delayed between 30 and 60 minutes as a result of the wild weather.

Trains on Cleveland, Beenleigh and Gold Coast, Ferny Grove and Ipswich lines have been delayed due to point and signal faults caused by the storms.

Services on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines are suspended between Banoon and Coopers Plains stations, due to a level crossing incident at Boundary Road.

Trains have also been suspended on the Ferny Grove line between Bowen Hills and Ferny Grove stations due an overhead power fault. Buses are being provided for passengers on the Ferny Grove line between the two stations.

Caboolture, Sunshine Coast, Shorncliffe, Airport and Doomben line trains have been delayed between Wooloowin and Toombul due to a signal failure at Eagle Junction train station.

All Ipswich region bus and FlexiLink services have been delayed up to 60 minutes.

The Bell Street bus stops and FlexiLink stops in Ipswich CBD have been temporarily moved to the Transit Centre due to storm damage.

Was in Central at around 4pm. The 4.04pm FG service was a no-show so was waiting for the 4.25pm which turned up early. Lots of announcements about the delays and modifications to services. At least one Caboolture express was changed to all-stops, but most notably on the Beenleigh/GC line. There was a track fault somewhere south of Kuraby. All Beenleigh trains were terminating at Kuraby and all Gold Coast trains were stopping all stations Kuraby to Beenleigh.

I got to Central station at about 4:30pm and it was chaos!  Gold Coast train was canned at the last minute, as well with a Cleveland train and there were two Kuraby trains sitting on the platforms 1/2.  I gave up and caught the bus instead.

TL website is now saying a tree has hit an overhead line at Trinder Park so services are canned between Bethania and Kuraby.

FYI, there could be a third round of storms behind this lot.  A line is attempting to develop Toowoomba way.  It ain't over yet!  Gotta feel for all those transport workers and sparkys, definately a busy day and night.
