Translink Reported Bus Service Disruptions for Queensland

24th August 2024

Greetings,

Looking at the broader number of Translink Reported Bus Service Disruptions for Queensland for interest.

Each day we record the number reported on X by Translink.  Plotting the data allows for some appreciation of how the bus networks are performing generally.

Following some changes in the reporting of the service disruptions in April 2024 we noted a significant increase.  This was due in part to some previous under-reporting of the disruptions, and continuing driver shortages, but we are confident that the bus service disruptions now reported by Translink are more reliable.

As can be noted during school holiday periods the number of reported bus service disruptions falls significantly.  This is no doubt a reflection of less demand on bus operators and drivers to provide services.   Operators are at times short of bus drivers, so during school periods school runs are prioritised (properly) and this means that regular route runs are often cancelled.

We would like to see more done to support bus operators in terms of recruitment.  Recent initiatives to subsidise bus drivers wages are of course welcome, but this has not been universally accepted.

Best wishes,
Robert

Ipswich region bus cancellations morning of 22nd August 2024

23rd August 2024

Good Morning,

I have raised problems with constant bus service cancellations in the Ipswich (Western) bus region before.

Bus Queensland is contracted to deliver the Translink bus services for the region.

As can be noted from the list of bus service cancellations yesterday morning (22nd August) it is becoming very difficult for the community to travel on public transport reliably.
Fifty cent fares are great if there are services to catch!  When low frequency bus services are cancelled the effects are very disruptive.

Hopefully there will be some information forthcoming as to what is being done to help resolve these constant service cancellations.  The Ipswich bus network is important for local transport as well for passengers to connect to the Citytrain network.
