Free travel

Travel will be free across our SEQ network from 8pm on Sunday 31 December until 5:30am on Monday 1 January.

If you're travelling before 8pm our normal fares and travel conditions apply. You must have a valid go card or paper ticket to travel.

Track closures

Tracks will be closed between Park Road and Moorooka stations on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines due to Cross River Rail works.

Trains will run express between Roma Street and Moorooka (Beenleigh line) and Banoon (Gold Coast line) stations.

Timetabled railbus R591 will run between Park Road and Moorooka stations. Please plan your travel.

Cultural Centre station closure - from 5pm

Cultural Centre station will be closed from 5pm due to ongoing Brisbane Metro construction(Link opens in new tab/window).

If you are planning to arrive after 5pm, you won't be able to hop off at Cultural Centre.

Please use South Bank or a Brisbane City station after this time.

Here's to happy, safe and free travel this New Year's Eve

. Free public transport will be available across South East Queensland (SEQ) between 8pm New Year's Eve and 5.30am New Year's Day.

. Extra services will run to ensure public transport is the easiest way to get home from your celebrations.

. Customers are encouraged to plan their journey in advance, with multiple track closures until Thursday 18 January for important Cross River Rail works.

Free travel and extra services will help revellers herald in the new year with public transport the best way to get to and from your preferred location to celebrate.

Public transport will be free across SEQ (excluding Airtrain, long distance trains and on demand services) from 8pm on New Year's Eve until 5.30am on New Year's Day to help customers get home safely.

From 8.40pm additional train and bus services will be available for customers travelling to and from the city, South Bank and South Brisbane stations.

Trains will run every 15 minutes or better on most lines after the 8.30pm fireworks and again after midnight.

Brisbane River CityCat and ferry services will run approximately every 15 minutes until about 1am aside from during the fireworks.

G:link tram services will run as normal, with additional services throughout the night to get revellers home safely.

Free public transport will also be available for valid ticketholders attending the Brisbane International at the Queensland Tennis Centre and Brisbane Heat games at The Gabba.

Customers are also reminded there will be there will be multiple track closures across the train network until Thursday 18 January for Cross River Rail works.

Timetabled railbuses will replace affected train services during this time, with plenty of services in place to get you where you need to go. 

Customers are encouraged to plan their trip in advance by downloading the MyTranslink app, visiting the Translink website or by calling the Translink contact centre on 13 12 30.

"We want everyone to get home quickly and safely this New Year's Eve, no matter where you are travelling in the South East.

"Free public transport makes it easier for everyone to enjoy the celebrations and play a part in keeping everyone safe.

"There will be extra services available, right through to 5.30am on New Year's Day for those who want to celebrate all night long.

"No one tolerates drink driving, so make sure you plan ahead if you are having a few drinks.

"As we head into January, remember there are track closures across the network to facilitate important Cross River Rail works, so plan your journey well in advance to make use of the rail replacement buses.

"Here's to a happy and safe 2024 on our roads."
