Quote... Steven Miles has caught David Crisafulli as preferred premier but failed to translate his growing popularity into votes for Labor, a new poll reveals.

A YouGov poll of 1503 Queenslanders commissioned by The Courier-Mail reveals the premier's personal popularity is 36 per cent, one point below Mr Crisafulli's 37 per cent.

However, the LNP continues to lead Labor 55 to 45 per cent on a two-party vote – putting the conservatives on track to form government after almost 10 years.

It indicates Mr Miles's $1.4bn school lunches announcement and uncertainty over the LNP's position on abortion has chipped the edge off the conservative vote, but is unlikely to change the result of the election. ...

Quote... Queensland's state election contest has tightened in the final weeks, with voter support for Labor building as Steven Miles campaigns to claw back the LNP lead and save seats – if not his government.

Labor's primary vote has recovered almost 10 percentage points since a previous trend poll to now stand at 32 per cent, while support for the LNP fell by four points to 40 per cent – the opposition party's lowest point this year. ...

I think Labor has campaigned better than the LNP.  The LNP have kept a lot of their shadow Ministers out of public view - this could come back to bite them.

Couriermail --> Opinion: TikTok and free lunches were never going to save Labor $

QuotePremier Steven Miles has done all Labor could have asked of him, but the electoral die was cast well before these past four weeks.

This state election was well and truly over by the time the campaign started.

Voters had clearly made up their minds how they wanted to vote and were just waiting for the polling booths to open.

What's clearest from this lacklustre and frankly bizarre election campaign was despite the millions spent on advertising, the TikTok moments, and half baked ideas like free lunches for primary school kids, the Labor campaign has not shifted the inevitable.

Full credit to David Crisafulli for holding to being small target, being boring and a cure for insomnia.

He will become premier because voters did not want Labor – not because he came with a plan to govern. ...

Quote... David Crisafulli is poised to become Queensland's next premier in a knife-edge win, squandering a decisive lead in a campaign derailed by attacks on the Liberal National Party's stance on abortion and his small-target strategy.

An exclusive Newspoll conducted for The Australian in the lead up to Saturday's state election shows a change of government after almost a decade of Labor in power.

The opposition leads Premier Steven Miles's Labor government 52.5 to 47.5 per cent after preferences. If the predicted 5.7 per cent swing were uniform across the state, the LNP would win 13 Labor seats and secure a two-seat majority in the 93-electorate parliament.

Mr Crisafulli may be forced to form minority government with the support of crossbenchers, including the Katter's Australian Party which currently has four MPs and may win more seats off Labor in regional Queensland. ...

Brisbanetimes --> 'There will be no cuts': Crisafulli's letter to Queensland public servants $

QuoteQueensland's new Premier David Crisafulli has assured the state's public servants their jobs are safe and will task his ministers with spending time in their departments, outside 1 William Street.

Crisafulli was sworn in as Queensland's 41st premier on Monday morning and made it one of his first orders of business to send a letter to the state's entire public service to reassure government employees they would be spared from Campbell Newman-era style job cuts.

"We have an ambitious and important agenda in the interest of Queenslanders, and you, the Queensland Public Sector, are vital to what we need to achieve," his letter reads.

"Whilst there may be some initial realignment in leadership and in machinery of government changes to effect these new policy and priority settings, there will be no employment cuts to the public service workforce. ...

Still not announced ...

Couriermail --> Editorial: David Crisafulli sets the tone early for integrity overhaul $

QuotePremier David Crisafulli has made a strong start in doing the right thing on basic ministerial accountability – a topic that was a source of criticism for the outgoing Palaszczuk/Miles administration. We hope he sticks to these lofty goals when things will inevitably get tough in government.

Mr Crisafulli said on Tuesday he would have newly drafted ministerial charters ready to deliver to his new cabinet when the ministers are sworn in today. Those charters, he said, would contain three things: the values each department should be run by, policies and commitments made during the election campaign, and an "overall framework" of the Westminster principles he wanted his government to abide by.

Even better, Mr Crisafulli said these charters would be publicly released – and enforced through demotions to the backbench if any ministers failed to adhere to them. ...

AJ Transport

No significant executive experience, no civil service experience, regional.

I suspect a Roads, roads, roads approach with no sensible attempts at reorganisation.

STB

I'm actually quite disappointed that the transport portfolio wasn't given to Steve Minnikin, given his experience in transport.

I agree, this guy seems to be from the right wing section of the LNP (Steve would be from the moderates), so apart from what's already promised, it'll just simply be roads, roads, roads.

It will be interesting to see what the minister's position is on the Gympie Road tunnel, given that it has a BCR of just 0.2 and thus will require a massive injection of public funding to be viable. How will that play out? Will the member look at that number and reject the project, or proceed anyway?

Being a member from the Sunshine Coast, I would imagine he would be very supportive of the Direct Sunshine Coast Line (the project might be renamed, this tends to happen when there is a colour/stripes change in the Queensland Government).

Did a bit of digging and found from him what is effectively an anti light rail speech while he was in opposition.

Well....this is a great start on first impressions...  :-\

The new transport minister has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Animal Studies ... ideal background for herding TMR bureaucrats.

Relevant PT Speech

Looks like in this speech he is inclined against LRT and more open to buses/BRT.

So might be good news for expansion of Brisbane Metro BRT - might see the vehicles on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast also.

The member makes comments of LRT costing $150 million km as a "ridiculously costly and inflexible solution..."

I think East West on the GC, conversion of the Doomben line and BRT on the Sunny Coast as this was already flagged. They will probably put stage 4 of LRT on hold for the time being and investigate the heavy rail extensions instead.

Yeah but overall he seems to have an attitude that more PT = more density.

Shame Minnikin didnt get it. He seemed like he wanted to do stuff.

I would be hard-pressed to describe a ministry with Bleijie as Deputy as being "alright"

He's a petulant man-child.

Crisafulli quick off the mark with broken promises. He'd promised the shadow cabinet would become the Cabinet- no changes.

It's not just the broken promise, it means for so many volunteer advocacy groups across so many portfolios, like RBOT, that after the tireless hours they've put in informing, persuading, building connections with shadow ministers they're now back to square one. Sure rotating ministers happened under Labor so it's nothing new in that sense and was already frustrating - but that's why Crisafulli promised stability as a point of difference. Empty words in the end.
