Sources have confirmed that the next train voice system may increasingly not be in operation at stations, due to the fact there are no longer replacements parts available should it fail in a station location.

It has been suggested that the NextThere app be used.

See > https://nextthere.com/  This app is linked to real time train movements, and also for delays/disruptions.

Queensland Rail are looking at alternative options but nothing in train yet.

Not good.

Anytrip is vastly better, and not limited to the Apple ecosystem.

Thanks SurfRail. Believe or not NextThere was the recommendation.  I noticed it was Apple, although can be used on browsers too now.

Not good.

How have they let it get to this state? This is awful for people with visual impairments.

You'd be surprised what bean counters try to get away with.

Is this the generic speaker announcements, or that pillar that makes the little bip noise all day?

ozbob

I think it is the pillars where you press the button.  They are important for many as the generic speaker announcements are not operational around the clock, or always audible!

I think it is still functional at a lot of stations but as it fails there is no fix.

What about the newer units used on the Redcliffe line?

Can they just replace with those ones as they fail?

Don't know, I have a meeting with QR next week, I will ask them what is going on.  I suspect they don't have backups.

I have noticed that they've been replaced at a lot of stations with newer ones. I'll try and remember to take a picture next time I'm passing through.

I have been advised that QR is the process of sourcing replacements parts with an alternative supplier for the Next Train Information pedestals.

Functionality where lost will be restored in time.
