New Year's Day long weekend services

On Sunday 1 January and Monday 2 January, services around Queensland will run to reduced timetables due to the New Year's Day public holiday and public holiday day-in-lieu.

How generous of the State Government and Translink to direct that ' free public transport ' be in place for SEQ bus, train, ferry and tram services between 8pm Saturday 31st December 2022 and 5.30am Sunday 1st January 2023 ( https://translink.com.au/plan-your-journey/event-transport/196026 ). The only reason they do this is because the ticketing system cannot handle the crush crowds in Brisbane.

2022 has been a very difficult year for public transport passengers, particularly on the buses. Reduced timetables and random constant cancellations due to ' staff unavailability ' have impacted significantly, not only in SEQ but throughout Queensland.

We did suggest that the Government consider a week or so of free travel prior to Christmas, to acknowledge the fact of the difficult year and make it easier people to get around in the pre-Christmas rush. Ignored.

It would be a much better outcome to simply make public transport free, throughout Queensland, for the entire days, Saturday 31st December 2022 and January 1st 2023. That way no time confusion and people could travel as it suits, helping to alleviate the crush crowding in Brisbane. A Government in touch would do that.

Well, remember this State Government. You make your bed, you are going to lie it ...
