Stopped off at Indooroopilly station this afternoon.  Went for a walk along the subway to see if any progress ...

Well, it is a little cleaner and doesn't smell as it did.  But still looks rather sad next to the recently upgraded section.

Some photographs this afternoon (16th February 2009).

I've noticed a really bad smell for years around this location, it is normally pretty bad on the bikepath towards the Pedestrian and bike bridge near the military base. I really wouldn't be surprised if the reason all parties are passing buck is that the problem is bigger than anyone thinks!

There was a report of around 10 council trucks and trailers and zappaway truck all standing by last evening (18th Feb).  You may be correct Dwb that there are some major issues in the area.

Units get nod but no date on subway

Units get nod butno date on subway

THE Indooroopilly subway could remain in an appalling state for another two years, despite Brisbane City Council approving a development application which will see it fixed.

Developers PCN Projects recently got the nod from the council to transform the site of the historic El Dorado cinemas into a 14-storey mixed-use village, with an adjoining six-storey commercial building fronting Station Rd.

The proposal includes a six-screen cinema complex. A condition of approval was the completion of streetscaping along Coonan St and an upgrade to council's component of the pedestrian underpass linking Coonan St and Indooroopilly railway station.

The run-down 20m section of the subway was not completed during a recent $27 million State Government station upgrade because it was council property.

However, developer Dr Solly Preller said he was uncertain when the upgrade would occur. "It will happen but that's detail that has to be worked out yet, whether it is at the start of construction or not," he said.

"(Construction) should start in May, if all goes well, and it's a two-year development process to build so in the first half of 2011 it should be completed."

Dr Preller said there was strong interest from both investors and owner occupiers in the 100-unit development, with about 75 per cent sold.

Four public submissions were made in response to the proposal, outlining concerns about height, density, traffic impacts and amenity. However, Councillor Jane Prentice (Walter Taylor) said she believed it was "a great solution".

Indooroopilly Subway, more than on the nose, realy a poo tube, the council is responsible for the section under Coonan Street but despite directing the public to use the subway as the footpath across the Indooroopilly bridge is closed claims that the expense of fixing the problem is not warranted as the she subway is only used by railway patrons.
The hundreds of school kids who use it daily obviously do not count and the health issues that arise from the condition of the council owned section of the subway are irrelevant to Mayor do nothing Newman.
