Warwick community helps steer new bikeway plan

15th March 2023

Transport and Main Roads has collaborated with the Southern Downs Regional Council and the Warwick community to develop a new bikeway plan. The new bikeway will be located along Dragon, Pratten, and Easey streets.Planning is scheduled to be completed in June 2023.

Locals have had their say on Warwick's new bikeway design, which will create a safer, more direct bike route for residents, visitors, and commuters.

Transport and Main Roads and Southern Downs Regional Council plan to deliver a direct bike route along Dragon, Pratten and Easey streets.

Feedback from two rounds of community consultation will help inform the next phase of the project.

Planning is scheduled to be completed in June 2023.

Quotes attributed to Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey MP:

"By working with the Warwick residents, we are ensuring this bikeway is fit-for-purpose and reflects community needs," Minister Bailey said.

"This project forms part of the Palaszczuk Government's vision to improve bicycle riding facilities and networks across South East Queensland.

"We know that investing bikeways makes cycling a more attractive option for commuters, which helps reduce traffic congestion and promotes a more active lifestyle.

"That's why the Palaszczuk Labor Government is investing more than $268 million in active transport infrastructure in Queensland over the next four years."

Warwick community helps steer new bikeway plan

As of the start of this year, I live on Dragon St and this should be a good project to help keep bicycles off the New England and Cunningham Highway(s) and provide easy access to the city centre. Residents west of the New England and in the Rosenthal Heights district should get a lot of benefit from not having to ride down the highway alongside trucks.
