Redesign of BCC Rocket Bus Network

A simpler rocket network

It would be great to have a simpler rocket bus network (peak services). Rocket buses are necessary for a number of reasons:

- There isn't rail on the busway, and thus there isn't the capacity to absorb connecting bus services even with bi-arctic buses (Brisbane Metro).

- Parts of the CBD are not serviced by buses on their usual daytime route via Adelaide St/Queen St/Elisabeth St

- The busway between Mater Hill and Cultural Centre physically cannot handle a bus every 12 seconds, so this must overflow via the Captain Cook Bridge

- Some longer distances need to be covered and the bus fills up by the time it gets to the busway so it makes no sense to continue stopping all stops

Some Concepts:

- Busway does about 13K-18K in the mornings. About half of that needs to come off the busway and over the Captain Cook Bridge.

Route 160
Route 160 retained after the introduction of Brisbane Metro. This service would be converted to bi-arctic buses in time and begin from Eight Mile Plains busway station. This service would stop all busway stations to Buranda and then divert to Captain Cook Bridge.

Essentially, it would give everyone at a busway stop the option to go via the Captain Cook Bridge. Services would run on a stable frequency, for example, every 5 minutes in peak hour. (1800 pphd)

Rockets 156, P157 (Runcorn)

P157 is simply a shorter version of 156. Suggest delete the route number P157 and roll services over to 156, and make it pre-paid (P156)

These services run past Fruitgrove Rail station. It would be interesting to think about why so many Sunnybank area services literally run past Beenleigh line train stations and what implication that might have for a new train station on a future Flagstone line.

(Putting a train station near Paradise Rd will probably only receive park and ride passengers (hint:big car park required $$$) while BCC will continue to run buses to the busway every few minutes. There would be little or no access to the train station, an even if they ran a bus past it; wouldn't passengers just have an incentive to stay on the bus?

If they are not walking out at Fruitgrove and Altandi, why would they walk out at a new Algester train station?  :is- )

Because from Algester you dont have to go through any of the Sunnybank curves.

Fruitgrove to the city takes 40 mins via train. The bus takes 37 minutes from Fruitgrove so there is no advantage to interchange.

In the long run, a pinelands rail tunnel could make the train fast enough to be attractive.

A bus from algester takes 50 minutes to reach the city.

A train from Algester has a much better alignment and could actually run express Salisbury to Park road with the Gold Coast trains, so a new train line would be faster.

Why keep route 160 via CCB? Just have extra 162s with a better/more consistent CBD alignment and additional stops at Griffith Uni and Buranda. The P137 provides service to HPW and Greenslopes for via CCB travel to those stations too.

Remember, Metro doesn't actually know what he's talking about.

Constructive comment  :ok:

That would work. I would like to add Holland Park West and Greenslopes to the list of stops for Rocket 162 as well, in exchange for removing those from the P137. P137 is much longer as a route, so the time saving should be for that one over the 162 IMHO.
