Transperth Fares

https://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/Tickets-Fares/Fares

From 1 January 2022, there will be a significant change to the way fares are calculated.

With Transperth's Two-Zone Fare Cap, you will now be able to travel anywhere on the Transperth network, up to nine zones, for no more than a two-zone fare.

The cost of a FamilyRider and DayRider will also decrease to $9.80 (concession DayRider will decrease to $4.20).

If you are travelling using a SmartRider, continue to travel as normal and your fare will automatically be capped at two zones.

If you purchase a cash ticket, you will still need to select the number of zones you are travelling. If you select zones two through nine your fare will be capped at the cost of a two-zone fare.

WA Today --> Free public transport for school students $

QuotePremier Roger Cook says his government is serious about providing cost-of-living relief, announcing on Sunday that public transport will be free for WA school students this year.

The Ride to School Free program will allow students with a valid SmartRider card to ride buses and trains free from Monday to Friday.

He said the new measure would save parents hundreds of dollars over the school year.

In addition, Cook announced free public transport on Sundays for every West Australian.

"It means families from suburbs can get out and about all day, Sundays ... to continue to explore everything we have in Western Australia," he said.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said schemes such as this had resulted in an uptick in the use of public transport in WA. ...

RAIL Back On Track: Interesting development with fares in WA. The Premier Roger Cook has announced today Schoolchildren will get free travel on buses and trains in 2024, and that public transport will be free on Sundays for every West Australian. A SmartRider card (equivalent to our go card) will be required. This initiative is not mode specific, nor constrained by council boundaries. Such an initiative by the Queensland Government for all of SEQ/Regional Qld would be very welcome.

Jonno

Much much smarter policy than QLD's approach!!

Gets kids used to and comfortable with catching public transport rather than sitting in back of car on their iPhones being driven everywhere.

Importantly parents only then need to consider their fares (which should be minimal anyway) when deciding to catch public transport instead of driving!!!

 Win Win!!

Even a Sunday and Public holiday Cap would be good here. School kids can already claim back transport to and from school.

^ no, not quite.

" Primary and secondary school students in South East Queensland are eligible for concession fares at 50 per cent of an adult go card fare, while students across the state may also be eligible for assistance under the School Transport Assistance Scheme (STAS). "
