Estimates Hearings

The estimates process aids the Parliament in its scrutiny of the Government's proposed expenditure. Since 1994, committees of the parliament have undertaken the estimates process, by examining and reporting on the proposed expenditures contained in the Appropriation Bill and the Appropriation (Parliament) Bill.

In 2021, the examination of the Appropriation Bill will be carried out by the 7 portfolio committees, and the Appropriation (Parliament) Bill will be carried out by the Economics and Governance Committee.

During the estimates process (from 16 July to 5 August 2021), each portfolio committee will hold a public hearing at which the Speaker and Ministers (and certain senior public servants and officers) will be questioned regarding the proposed expenditures for the relevant portfolio areas. Other Members of the Legislative Assembly who are not members of the committee may also ask questions, with the leave of the committee. ...

Might be too difficult to control, and manage the support army for the Ministers I expect.  It can be a bit of a shambles.

But, process delayed is process denied!   :P

It would be easier to control, the speaker could mute interjecting ministers and boot them out of the session if they continue 🙂.

There is normally only one Minister, it is the other MPs that do the interjecting etc.  Yes, they could be muted.  But I think the Ministers would want their support staff with them.  It is fairly arduous process for the Ministers, they do prepare for it in depth.

Any way, the powers to be have decided to defer it.  I can live with that.

Gold Coast Bulletin -->  Delays on the Coomera Connector to add to M1 congestion $

QuoteTHE only vehicles likely to be on the Coomera Connector for its planned opening date of 2024 are bulldozers because of major delays to construction, the Opposition warns.

The Palaszczuk government is expected to be grilled during Transport Estimates hearings on Tuesday about the time line for the $1.5bn highway.

Transport and Main Roads director-general Neil Scales told last year's Estimates hearing that cars would be on the second M1 "in stages from 2024".

But this year's State Budget papers show only $115m is being provided to begin construction of the first stage between Nerang and Coomera.

The Opposition will target the government on the slow burn spend, with $650m allocated for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 budgets. City councillors were told at a briefing late last year that work would begin on the six-lane highway in mid-2021. ...
