Combining the Queensland Rail total (aggregate) results on the same axes allows a better appreciation of what is happening.

Sent to all outlets:

Update on on-time running performance for Citytrain Queensland Rail Month of March 2021

17th May 2021

Greetings,

Queensland Rail Citytrain services, including peak and off-peak, are measured as on-time when they arrive within three minutes and 59 seconds of their scheduled time, except for the interurban services viz. Gold Coast, Rosewood and Sunshine Coast which are measured as on time if they arrive within 5 minutes and 59 seconds.

Target is services > 95% on time
FMA = force majeure adjusted
CI = customer impact (what passengers actually experience)
CP = combined peaks

Overall FMA on-time running (OTR) for March 2021 was below the target of 95%. Cleveland, Beenleigh and Caboolture lines particularly the OTR performance is poor and this is dragging down the total (aggregate) of all lines. See graphs below.

The Cleveland line is a single line between Manly and Cleveland and this makes it difficult for Queensland Rail to maintain the peak timetable. Projections in the 2017 Cross River Rail business case for 10 trains per hour on the Cleveland line in the morning peak were and are non deliverable unless there are significant upgrades to improve capacity between Manly and Cleveland. Problems on the Cleveland line cause flow on effects as well.

The Monthly OTR data is published on or about the 10th each month for the month preceding the last month at https://www.queenslandrail.com.au/aboutus/ourperformance/service-punctuality-and-reliability

For March 2021 the data was not published until the 13th May 2021, pushing it back even further. It would be good if this delay in reporting the Monthly on-time running data could be reduced from around six weeks to two weeks as for other jurisdictions.

Reference at the RAIL Back On Track forum > https://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=14258.0 where detailed analyses of all individual lines are available.

Best wishes,
Robert

Combining the Queensland Rail total (aggregate) results on the same axes allows a better appreciation of what is happening.

There has been a loss of OTR as passengers have returned to the network.
