Quote from: HappyTrainGuy on June 18, 2024, 13:42:33 PMHow's QTMP looking... or are we just going to do another CRR with the fleet?

They are better off negotiating with Downer and the sub contractor Hyundai to immediate build 15-20 trains in South Korea with the others still getting built in Australia. This could allow the extra trains needed for Cross River Rail as well as reduce costs for the overall project.

HappyTrainGuy

Won't reduce costs. Tooling in Korea for a limited fleet, transport costs along with rollingstock fixes/certifications would eat into that. Bulk orders yes because you have the scale but a small order would do bugger all.

Some bicycle user groups were invited to check out dedicated cycling areas in the mockups of the new trains.

Good to read that representatives of local Bicycle User Groups had engagement with the QTMP.

Crucial Gold Coast road receives upgrade for Train Manufacturing Program delivery

13th August 2024

The Miles Government and the City of Gold Coast are partnering to upgrade a critical section of Goldmine Road in Ormeau as part of the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program. The delivery agreement includes the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and the City of Gold Coast contributing funding for the design and construction of this work.

Combining the upgrade of Goldmine Road with the rail facility entrance will minimise construction impacts on the nearby school, residents and road users. The Miles Government has listened to community feedback about the need to minimise the impact of the rail facility on Goldmine Road. ...

First train mock-up in Brisbane for testing

20th August 2024

qtmp_mockup20aug24.png

The draft design for Australia's most accessible passenger trains has been put to the test at a Low-Fidelity (Lo-Fi) train mock-up in Geebung.

Members of the disability sector, train passengers, train drivers and bike users have had a chance to inspect the mock-up of the new Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP) trains.

A co-design process is ongoing with the disability sector to ensure trains are compliant, functional, and accessible for all passengers.

The 65 six-car QTMP trains will be compliant with the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport (DSAPT) and will be the most accessible rollingstock in Australia when the first train is manufactured and begins testing in late 2026.

It comes as major accessibility upgrades are completed across all 75 New Generation Rollingstock trains. The Miles Government has invested more than $335 million into the upgrade of the entire New Generation Rollingstock fleet, in response to a 2018 Commission of Inquiry.

All 65 QTMP trains are expected to be in service by 2032, in time for the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games. They will feature a wide, accessible path of travel through the train, and electronic levelling control and train boarding bridges to facilitate independent boarding at all doors for people who use mobility devices.

There will also be 20 accessible spaces, 88 priority seats, two fully-accessible toilets, hearing loops, USB-C charging at all seats and four bicycle storage spaces on every train.

This package of works is part of the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program, which will support 1,300 jobs throughout the life of the project. ...

Queensland Parliament  Questions Without Notice

https://documents.parliament.qld.gov.au/events/han/2024/2024_08_22_DAILY.pdf

Trains, Accessibility

Mr TANTARI: My question is of the Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing and
Minister for Water. Can the minister advise how the Miles Labor government is doing what matters to
ensure Queensland's new trains will meet the needs of the disability sector, and is the minister aware
of any risky alternatives?

Mr BUTCHER: I thank the member for the question. I know how passionate he is about
manufacturing, particularly the train manufacturing that is happening in his electorate and down to
Maryborough. I am proud to say that the trains that are made under a Labor government will be the
most accessible trains in Australia when they are finished. I am even prouder to say that the mock-up I
visited last week was made by Allweld, a fantastic local manufacturing company in Maryborough in the
Wide Bay district. The mock-up provides a chance for the stakeholders to test out the trains, like the
handle placement, the pathway access in the new trains and also the visibility on our new trains that
we will be making here in Queensland.

These new trains will be made by Queensland workers in Maryborough and they will be building
a fully accessible access path through the train, electronic levelling control and train boarding bridges
to help with boarding for people who use mobility devices. That is really important. The trains will have
20 accessible spaces, 88 priority seats, two accessible toilets, hearing loops, USB charging at all seats
and four bicycle storage spaces on every single train.

When it comes to the train's design, the disability sector has been engaged all the way. We made
sure they were there front and centre. We listened to the disability sector and we are delivering for them
here in Queensland, unlike the LNP who just ignored them here in Queensland and bought the trains
from overseas that could not even be used.

Mr Hart interjected.

Mr SPEAKER: Member for Burleigh!

Mr BUTCHER: We will not apologise for making Australia's most accessible passenger trains in
Queensland. I think the LNP should apologise for their record on train manufacturing here in
Queensland—literally it was a train wreck! Queensland train manufacturing jobs were sent overseas
and the trains were not even up to the disability standard that our people expect here in Queensland.
What a slap in the face to the disability sector here in Queensland.

Guess what? Downer workers, the AMW workers and the ETU fixed those trains that were made
overseas for the disability sector. We will not fail the disability sector here in Queensland when we make
these new trains. We will make sure the training they get is done by professional training companies
who are solvent and not trading insolvent here in Queensland. We will make sure that Manufacturing
Skills Queensland delivers programs for our kids and our apprentices coming through in the way they
will be making trains here in Queensland, not by dodgy companies that get them in, do interviews and
do not even give them a job.

Mr SPEAKER: Member for Burleigh, you are warned under the standing orders. It does not give
me any pleasure, member for Southport, but you are already on a warning. You were continually
interjecting. I did not want to interrupt the minister. You are to leave the chamber for one hour.

Whereupon the honourable member for Southport withdrew from the chamber at 11.31 am.

Couriermail --> Asbestos discovery fuels claims of political interference $

QuoteThe company that won billions of dollars in work from Labor cancelled a scheduled visit from Liberal National MPs – but the minister has hit back at a "slippery" claim.

The discovery of asbestos at a company that won billions of dollars in contracts from the state government was used to cancel a scheduled visit from Opposition MPs – fuelling questions about political interference.

Deputy Opposition Leader Jarrod Bleijie, manufacturing spokeswoman Deb Frecklington and transport spokesman Steve Minnikin were due to attend Downer's Maryborough train manufacturing facility on August 14, but the visit was axed at the last minute when a Downer worker phoned to say asbestos had been discovered in the boardroom. ...

Miles Doing What Matters: New $7.1 million Manufacturing Centre of Excellence for Maryborough

28th August 2024

. New $7.1 million skills and training facility to be built in Maryborough

. Train manufacturing skills will be a key part of Manufacturing Centre of Excellence training program

. Investment will bolster the region's capacity to generate more skilled manufacturing workers

Manufacturing Minister Glenn Butcher and Assistant Minister Bruce Saunders joined Manufacturing Skills Queensland (MSQ) to announce the Miles Labor Government will build a new $7.1 million skills and training facility in Maryborough that will put the region's workforce at the forefront of the state's manufacturing industry.

The Manufacturing Centre of Excellence will give local workers and jobseekers the skills they need to fill training gaps within identified sectors with a strong focus on upskilling more workers to support Queensland's significant investment in train manufacturing.

The $9.5 billion Queensland Train Manufacturing Program will see 65 six-car passenger trains manufactured at a purpose-built manufacturing facility at Torbanlea in the Fraser Coast region, supporting 1,300 jobs throughout the life of the project.

The Manufacturing Centre of Excellence will provide world class facilities that could skill workers in advanced machining, CNC, robotics and augmented welding, along with integrating extended reality (virtual, augmented, and mixed).

Downer have come on board as a foundation member of the Manufacturing Centre of Excellence, partnering with Manufacturing Skills Queensland to deliver training in advanced manufacturing.

This will provide sustainable, long-term and local training opportunities that will support train manufacturing and industries in the manufacturing supply chain across the Fraser Coast region, developing job opportunities and providing a lasting legacy for the region.

Darra company awarded $30 million contract for Queensland Train Manufacturing Program

17th September 2024

The Miles Government's Queensland Train Manufacturing Program's (QTMP) 65 six-car passenger trains will be supplied climate control systems by Darra company, Knorr-Bremse, after they were awarded a more than $30 million contract.

The company will expand their existing service facility at Darra to produce climate control systems for the new trains.

A total of 520 units will be manufactured in Darra with works including mechanical, refrigeration and electrical assembly. The contract will create eight full-time jobs for Queenslanders.

The system has several environmental benefits like the use of long-life air filters decreasing landfill by up to 50 per cent.

The air conditioning system will be equipped with the latest in fan, compressor and heat exchanger technology. This means less maintenance required for the new trains and more time in service.

Knorr-Bremse is a leader in on-board rail manufacturing systems such as air conditioning, doors and electronic management systems. The company is represented in 30 countries around the world, employing 450 people across Australia, and almost 30,000 people globally.

This package of works is part of the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program, which will support 1,300 jobs throughout the life of the project. ...
