10 Year SEQ Rail Network Strategy

Development of a 10-year rail strategy for South East Queensland

SYSTRA Scott Lister, in consultation with TMR, Queensland rail and Cross River Rail led the development of a 10 year demand driven strategy to optimise the benefits of the rail network in South East Queensland.

This strategy addressed:

Customers and demand
Service planning and timetables
Sectorisation
Crew and fleet
Technology and infrastructure
Stabling, maintenance and depots
The strategy explored staged commissioning of the Cross River Rail project, investment in rolling stock, train control systems, smart stations and stabling/maintenance strategies.

I have been advised this document is ' Cabinet In Confidence ' and cannot be accessed by the public.

Why hide it?   :fp:

Let's hope these 'experts' have genuinely guided QR/TMR on the correct path for the long term planning of the network.

Half hour services on weekends just won't cut it, particularly once CRR is operational and the SEQ region has a population of 4 million+ by 2025.

ozbob

The track record of rail planning by TMR and botched politics is not a good one.

Continuing obfuscation is not in Queensland's best interests.

The Queensland Government is not transparent and hide things as a matter of routine, and goes out of its way to present a massaged spin message, complete with an army of ex-journalists paid at public expense.

At least it's a good chuckle in a tough year...that'll be its only value!   :-r
SEQ, where our only "fast-track" is in becoming the rail embarrassment of Australia!   :frs:

I noted in the Transport Jobs thread with respect to some recently advertised positions > https://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?msg=257889

Mention is made of " 10 year Rail Coordination Program  "  and " Department's 10-year rail strategy " and " TMR's 10-year rail strategy " and " TMR's 10-year rail program ".

I assume the are referring to the OP document.

It is bullsh%t that it is hidden.  No external validation I suspect.

10 Year SEQ Rail Network Strategy - request for access

30th April 2022

Good morning,

We  made inquiries in September 2020 if we could obtain a copy of the document " 10 Year SEQ Rail Network Strategy " https://www.systra.com.au/en-projet/10-year-seq-rail-network-strategy but were told we couldn't because the document is Cabinet-In-Confidence.

We have noted in recent employment positions advertised by the State Government on Smart Jobs mentions of a 10 year rail strategy, viz.,

On Linkedin we note Sarah Cross Division Manager, Program Strategy & Integration Strategic Rail Translink at Transport and Main Roads mentions the 10 year Rail Coordination Program  https://www.linkedin.com/embed/feed/update/urn:li:share:6925586081157378048 in promoting the above positions.

We again request access to this document. We are interested in knowing what is planned for the next 10 years or so for rail.

We request the Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to release the document/s that related to the 10 year rail strategy from the cabinet-in-confidence restriction and direct the Minister of Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey to provide us with a copy of such document/s.

Thank you for your consideration.

Best wishes,
Robert

Any strategy that is demand driven usually based on low unsubstantiated % of trips by public transport (I was told once that getting anything more than 15% by public transport was unrealistic) is bound to be "underwhelming".

Transport planning needs to be supply driven to get the outcome you want!

Does the rail strategy include how to design the bus network like Perth or Toronto where buses go to key train stations and they build in interchanges there? Or is it silo operation again?

I am pretty sure they conveyed the benefits of driver only operation.

Why do they hide these things?

Is it because it is a mediocre plan?

If it was so wonderful surely the Government would be happy to tell the world about it hey lurkers?  :lu:  :lu:

I believe it is important that these strategies and the like are available for examination, critical and constructive review.

CRR stuff is hidden and they are well on the way to yet another blunder.

I think the 10 year rail strategy is all around park 'n' rides  :eo:
If they think they can turnout for the 2032 Olympics with the present underperforming outfits they are very delusional.

Sounds like it. Still trying to aim for Car Rapid Transport (CRT). :wlk

New trains are vital for CRR to run optimally. Yet, they haven't come out with new train designs or an approximate time when they will be ready. They have only three years to design and commission new trains. I don't think that's likely to happen though, as three years is a tight time frame.

What on earth are Smart stations?
One's that require fewer trains in SEQ is my sad guess.

Why hide the brilliant plan - unless it's truly non-brilliant.
