Australia:  Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane rail commuters have had enough of mediocrity!

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has called for urgent action to sort out the failing suburban rail systems in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"All of the eastern state suburban rail systems are grossly under-resourced.  There are significant increases in passenger loadings in all states but governments have failed to ensure that pro-active resourcing of the most efficient mass transit mode kept pace."

"It is time for the Federal Government to show some leadership and together with the State Governments, grasp the moment and drive rapid resourcing and upgrade of rail before there is complete meltdown."

"The Sydney CityRail system is on the verge of collapse due to neglect and failure to perform proper maintenance (1)."

"Melbourne has chronic overloading and service difficulties (2)."

"Brisbane is still caught in a time-warp.  A plan to increase inner-city capacity is just a glossy document at this time (3)."

"Rail commuters in the major eastern capital cities have had enough of the mediocrity."
