TransLink bus services for Flagstone

^ It almost seems like they're spending more money on marketing than on the actual service!

It's one route - one - that can't even manage a consistently bad timetable, much less a good one. It's a welfare service of the absolute lowest tier. Any marketing is just throwing money down the toilet and surely TL knows this.

Now... if Flagstone were getting a proper 'big bang' suburban network (build it and they will come), and/or the one service was actually good enough for anyone to use by choice, go for it :-r

The service is a joke. It should be hourly, at minimum, 7 days/week from about 4:30am weekdays and 5:30/6:30 Saturdays/Sundays until 10pm Mon-Sat and maybe 8pm Sundays. Anything less is a total joke. But that's the majority of the TransLink bus network outside Bris/GC/SC. With a very few exceptions such as 555, the TL network in the outer areas (Logan, Ipswich, Moreton & Redlands) is hot garbage.

This is where transport and land use intersect. We can keep spreading our transport budget really thinly on far-flung exurbs (they are not even suburbs, they are that far) and PT monies on $60,000 car parks and expensive poor service, or focus more on the current areas.

Policies that BCC have such as 'no double storey or townhouse in low density' (read: most of the city) are really irresponsible because rather than adding to patronage on existing bus routes, you have to make entirely new ones appear out of the current PT budget.

Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

89 did the first service and has been doing them all morning. It appears the service is on a dedicated run print.

I stand corrected. It is on three four six different runs. Today it was serviced by 1, 3, 10, 87, 88, 89.

Combination of dedicated runs and extensions to other runs.

SurfRail

88 was showing up in the tracker earlier.

The timetables for all these periurban suburban locales are hideous - they compare quite unfavourably with what was being done with emerging outer areas 20 years ago or more.  There's no chance any of these places will end up with a service running until after midnight the way the main Robina or Helensvale services did back in the day, and there is no consistency in approach between otherwise comparable locations throughout SEQ.  May as well just hand out Cabcharges honestly.

The State needs to get serious about this.  If they are going to create isolated dormitories they have a responsibility to ensure they are at least connected up other than just with roads.  Weekend services and minimum hourly headways are an absolute must.

I agree to some extent, but now that the State Government has permitted—nay, encouraged—suburban development to such a far-flung area, they have some level of responsibility to provide services.

Yeah, Ripley, Flagstone and Yarrabilba are supposed to be the 3 main satellite cities so the Government has total responsibility since it was their strategy to build them out there.

From the above article (emphasis mine)^:

Quote"These will be model communities where children can walk to school, workers can live near to their public transport and families will be guaranteed greenspace for recreation and the lifestyle that Queensland is famous for," she said.

Sounds like a giant load of male bovine faeces to me!

Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning
The Honourable Cameron Dick

Greater Flagstone community hails a ride on new 535 bus service

The first dedicated bus service connecting the Greater Flagstone Priority Development Area (PDA) to Grand Plaza Shopping Centre in Browns Plains has rolled out from the depot.

Minister for State Development Cameron Dick shared in the excitement of Flagstone residents and the better-connected businesses and services along the new public transport route.

"The new 535 bus service operates Monday to Friday, 5.30am and 8:00pm, and will steer an improved lifestyle for residents in and around Flagstone," Mr Dick said.

"It will ensure better access to jobs, schools, healthcare and services in Logan and Brisbane.

"This is a joint initiative between Economic Development Queensland and TransLink, funded by development charges for the Greater Flagstone PDA.

"And as demand increases through future development, more services will be introduced."

Member for Jordan Charis Mullen said the dedicated service is fundamental to supporting the future growth of Flagstone and offers many opportunities and ongoing benefits for residents.

"With local public transport access within walking distance, commuters will be encouraged to leave their cars at home, which is a step in the right direction when it comes to lifestyle and liveability," Ms Mullen said.

"A trip from Flagstone to Browns Plains with an adult go card is $3.31 (one-zone) or $6.16 (three-zone) if continuing to Brisbane City, an affordable transport option that's even cheaper for seniors, students, or during off-peak times."

Member for Logan Linus Power said the community has jumped onboard and played an integral role in developing this service.

"I would like to thank the many residents who attended the TransLink information sessions and provided feedback to assist with developing the timetable and route," Mr Power said.

From Flagstone, the 535 route includes Flagstone State Community College and Flagstone State School, with connections to TransLink's wider network services to Logan, Griffith University, Garden City, or Sunnybank at Browns Plains bus station.

The 535 service also has connections to express services P142 and P546 to Brisbane City at Greenbank RSL, saving time and money for Flagstone residents commuting to the CBD.
