Pedestrian Access to Railway Stations

The recent announcement regarding the construction of a $13.5 million park'n'ride at Salisbury station got me thinking about how woeful pedestrian access between bus stops and railway stations is in some areas.

The 110, 115 and 117 all stop on Beaudesert Rd reasonably close to Salisbury station, but because of the configuration of pedesterian access, it's about a 400 m walk from the outbound stop to the station.

As for the inbound stop - anyone feel like playing chicken while crossing Beaudesert Rd? The nearest controlled crossing is at Granard Rd, 500 m to the south.

I'm not really sure what can be done about the outbound stop - even building a path through Dollis St park seems pointless as you need to walk back north to access the bridge anyway - although perhaps a second access path to the bridge could be built from the south. The footpath would also need to be well-lit, with CCTV coverage.

As for the inbound stop - the only real solutions I see are a pedestrian overpass, or a signalised pedestrian crossing.

The stops on the other side of the station (Lillian Ave) seem to be situated about as best they can be, and pedestrian access (using only Google maps) doesn't seem to be an issue, but signage (based on street view) is. Where are the signs directing people to the railway station? I'd suggest in the reverse direction, the same lack of signage exists. It doesn't have to be in great detail, but signs pointing towards bus stops for 125/598 on one side, and 110/115/117 on the other could be helpful.

Good topic, thanks.  Goodna station access could be improved by opening a pedestrian gate at the border of the park 'n' ride down side western. People coming from St Ives on foot, not using the complicated footbridges would not have to go on a tour around the RSL.

Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...
