Lack of timely reporting by TransLink

Good Morning,

It has now been nearly four months since the last TransLink Tracker was released publicly.  We are now well into the second quarter for 2017/2018 and the TransLink Tracker quarterly report April to June (Q4) 2016-2017 is still hidden away.  [ https://publications.qld.gov.au/dataset/translink-division-quarterly-reports ]

Similarly the last TransLink public transport performance data snapshot that has been published is May 2017.  Hello, we are now nearly into November 2017. [ https://publications.qld.gov.au/dataset/translink-public-transport-performance-snapshots ]

Can anyone advise when these documents will be made available please?   It is another sign of the contempt that the travelling public is treated with by Government.  Our elected political representatives clearly don't really care about transparency and timely reporting hey?  The Opposition appears to be too lazy to press the case as well.

Another point. Most jurisdictions announce via statement and social media when their data reports etc. are made available. Not in Queensland hey?  They are usually sneakily placed on the web servers late Friday afternoons hoping no one will notice.  Another sign of the contempt for citizens!

Best wishes,
Robert

Has anybody approached them directly?

I have been waiting months for some fairly basic information which dates back a few years, so no issue around it being collated and sent through from recent reporting.  Only the threat of an RTI request speeds them up.  Hopeless.

Have contacted them directly many times.  I think the problem is in the Ministerial Office (wrt to Trackers and Snapshots) rather than at TransLink per se.

Continuing operational issue with TransLink data reports

Good Morning Queensland,

I just checked the links for the TransLink Tracker and the Performance Snapshots and still no updates.

Is this yet another sign of an imminent election?  The Government does not want to have the confirmation of a failed public transport network for SEQ out there?

Citytrain Response Unit (remember that?) has been very quiet, where is the September Quarter 2017 report?

Beyond contempt all of this.   I am certain that TransLink has prepared the documents, I think the reluctance to publish is by Minister's Office delaying for crass political reasons. Prove me wrong?

Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Best wishes,
Robert

Still no sign of the Tracker or Snapshots.  Media has been following up, but has been pushed off the pages because of #qldvotes at this time.

Really is sad the lack of timely reporting.

Couriermail --> Queensland election 2017: Labor accused of hiding transport data

Quote
COMMUTERS continue to abandon public transport, despite the State Government cutting the cost of travel.

New Brisbane City Council analysis shows patronage across trains, buses and ferries fell 1.5 per cent – or 2.7 million trips – in the year to the end of June.

This is despite the Fairer Fares package introduced last December, which the Government predicted would add eight million trips.

Commuter advocates have accused the Government of sitting on public transport patronage and performance data to avoid embarrassment.

The release of regular public reports from TransLink are well behind schedule.

“We suspect they have been prepared, that the data is available, but is not being released. They must be bad,” Rail Back On Track spokesman Robert Dow said.

TransLink’s monthly public transport performance snapshot, which measures customer satisfaction, has not been published since May.

The last report showed deteriorating ratings for rail services.

Likewise, the TransLink Tracker report for the three months to the end of June has not been released.

That contains details of patronage across public transport modes, punctuality results and customer complaints.

Mr Dow said the fact that Transport Minister Jackie Trad referred to on-time performance data for the September quarter in Parliament last week indicated her office had the information, but it was being kept from the public.

“The only reason I can think of is that the election is imminent and they don’t want negative feedback,” he said.

The council analysis shows the number of passengers has dropped 9.5 per cent since 2008-09. This included a period where fares were increased by 15 per cent every year for three years from 2010-11.

Brisbane City Council public transport committee chairman Adrian Schrinner said the fare reduction was welcomed, but it failed to go far enough.

The more the Tracker highlights the falling passenger numbers, the government must think that its CRR calculations, based on increasing numbers, are undermined -- thereby supporting IA position that the project is not needed until mid-2020s.  Once again we see political interference in operational matters.  Poor frequency, chop and change timetables, cancelled services at the drop of a hat are all influencing passenger numbers.  Fix those and numbers will rise dramatically.  It will be interesting to see the nos. using trains and buses during the Commonwealth Games.  The tracker for that period will be shot out of a cannon to the media!
