I would support this road only in conjunction with the paralleled part of the M1 becoming tolled.
Along with the new road being built to proper arterial road standards with a good amount of grade seperation where possible.

I just don't see a huge need for the road, south of helensvale its fairly close to the m1 so time savings wouldn't be very large.

The point is to get local north-south traffic off the M1.

yes, and therefore using the M1 becomes a premium option, not the only option.  Hence why a toll should be applied.   No need for local residents to pass through tolls regularly which was one of the reasons against tolls on the M1.

In terms of road standards, it just needs to be something like Bermuda St between Nerang-Broadbeach Rd and the M1.  2-lane limited access but no need for grade-separated intersections (or at least passive provision for them).

I'm all for tolling the M1 - after this is built, not before.

Tolling a (previously) 'free' road has not worked and is political suicide.  Putting in a 'fast lane' and tolling it is okay, because u keep the free component beside it.

Tolling works. The dramatic falls in traffic when the tunnel free period ended in Brisbane prove that.

It's just people get offended at having to pay. Strange as PT passers always pay each time.

There is probably no need to build new infra with toll.

Even a nominal toll like $1 would be effective.
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

Tolling works. The dramatic falls in traffic when the tunnel free period ended in Brisbane prove that.

It has also produced a perverse outcome where trucks still use surface streets to get through the Valley as it saves them money.

Tolling a road with no non-trolled alternative is not politically possible.  No toll road in Brisbane is without alternatives, even if they may at times be indirect.  There is no reasonably alternative route to the M1, which the IRTC will address.

re "....include facilities for public transport...."

Are we looking at a rail corridor down the centre?

Or some weird typical "Queensland Special" ie, a twice a day bus....but we'll call it a train! No wait....we'll call it....a "BusX"...no wait....we'll call it "A World Class BusX"

:bg:
SEQ, where our only "fast-track" is in becoming the rail embarrassment of Australia!   :frs:
