Just shy of 2 years I'm going to say.  In time for the Commonwealth Games, but barely.

I think they will have to sort it out within 500 days.

Am I being too optimistic?

Maybe this is why they hold up CRR too? No trains to run in the tunnels even if it were built??

First run NGR on the mainline (at Karrabin) 14th September 2016 ...

Note initially low speed to test braking etc. Later in the day was moving a lot faster.
The NGR set has just left the workshops and joined the mainline before Karrabin.

That would be 776 days or if you prefer 67,046,400 seconds, or 1,117,440 minutes, or 18,624 hours,  or 110 weeks and 6 days  :-t

Interesting how V/Line can get it so right, but DTMR can flap it up so badly from the same manufacturer.

Alas, I had put in 500 days thinking that one whole year was enough time to fix the problem.

I have lost!!!

No, I will be a fair loser. I lost fair and square.

This is becoming like a jellybean competition.

Will be interesting to see who comes the closest.

OK, as you wish.  But as new details of the botch have only become available and confirmed lately, I think it is only fair to offer another go.

I reckon the 651->680 option is gonna be on the money (partly because no one voted for it).

I think that the first train(s) (DDA non-compliant most likely) will be out before new year, with the other few slowly rolled out late 2017/early 18.

Very disappointing re. LNP planning. Governments should have nothing to do with transport and the associated fields. They (generally) have no clue what they have to do. Only experts should be planning this stuff THEN presenting it to the party in power.

QuoteVery disappointing re. LNP planning. Governments should have nothing to do with transport and the associated fields. They (generally) have no clue what they have to do. Only experts should be planning this stuff THEN presenting it to the party in power.

The great paradox is that many people don't like politicians and acknowledge that they make bad decisions and will continue to do so
but want to give the gov't that they are administering even more power/control because they think gov't will act wisely and in the wider public interest.

The gov't has an interest in planning as funding is public and the areas and assets are also public domain. Experts are never going
to have their advice followed fully because MPs are elected. They are elected because they represent our fears, hopes, values and biases.
NOT because they are experts.

Experts have their own problems as well, such as not having "skin" in the game if what they suggest turns out to be not correct, and fads. Just think about the 1960's Wilbur Smith Plan suggested by "experts" that wanted to put massive freeway interchanges right through inner city Brisbane suburbs. Many cities worldwide were being told similar things by "Experts".

MPs also have a need to be re-elected and raise campaign finance support. Solving this problem is #1 priority, with whatever problem at hand coming in #2 place. I suspect this is why restrictive EBAs were signed, probably why the RPL was not isolated from the rest of the network when it became clear that there wasn't enough trains, why marginal seats get heaped with goodies, why LNP has gone cold on Cross River Rail (hint: Pauline Hanson et al. needed to form gov't) and so forth.

Can't force politicians to be perfect and always follow good advice (because votes), and I doubt that we could work without them, but incentives to behave badly can be reduced. Firstly by extending term lengths (done) and installing a Queensland Senate to act as a house of review. Thirdly, set up PTQ and separate QR from the Gov't by contracting it out competitively.

Next Generation Rollingstock a.k.a. Not Going Right (NGR) trains - 600 days

Good Morning,

A NGR milestone of sorts:

And we are still waiting for an Exemption from the Australian Human Rights Commission to run the NGR trains in a non DDA compliant condition.

Unbelievable botch, and the bumblers are still there bumbling on hey?

These NGR trains are needed in service urgently, more ' mechanical issues ' with the Queensland Rail train fleet yesterday leading to  service cancellations and subsequent service alterations ( https://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=1862.msg198941#msg198941 ).  An almost daily occurrence.

Will there be a cake out at Wulkuraka?

Best wishes,
Robert
