Heading off to the 5'3" again late June.

Be worthwhile to check out progress with Sky Rail (Caulfield <> Dandenong) and I might do some VLine trips as well.

Probably go to Ballarat (bit happening there of late) and Geelong too (off peak  :P).

Geelong Railway Station

Geelong was built as the terminus of the Geelong and Melbourne Railway Company line. It was a dead ended terminus, located on the site of the present Law Courts complex. In 1876, the railway was extended south to Colac, and the station relocated to its present location.

The station was upgraded in 1988, and included new passenger waiting areas and booking offices.

Up until the 1990s, there was a goods yard, including a large goods shed, located on the eastern side of the station. A locomotive depot remains to the north, and carriage stabling sidings are to the west.

In March 2015, an upgrade to the station was completed, which included installing lifts to all platforms.

Murrumbeena station is closing for up to 11 weeks from Sat 17th June 2017 so I will have a few Bertie bus shuttles between M'Beena and Carnegie/Hughesdale  ..

Rail replacement is explicitly free too - no cryptic bullsh%t like in SEQ.

Herald Sun --> Sky rail: Murrumbeena Station to shut again for up to 11 weeks

QuoteMURRUMBEENA commuters will face more disruption when the station closes for up to 11 weeks for sky rail construction.

The station will close on Saturday, June 17 to allow for works on the $1.6 billion level crossing removal project along the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines.

Commuters who found out this morning were not impressed.

Raj Patel, of Murrumbeena, said getting to work in the city and back was going to be "an ordeal".

"We already went through the station closing last year," he said.

Level Crossing Removal Authority project director Brett Summers said the station would close for up to 11 weeks, but the authority would try to shorten that period.

During this time Cranbourne and Pakenham line trains will run express through Murrumbeena.

Buses will take Murrumbeena passengers to Caulfield, Carnegie or Hughesdale stations, where they can continue their journey by train.

Public Transport Users Association spokesman Daniel Bowen called on the LXRA to minimise the closure.

"Bus replacement services always result in delays waiting for connections," Mr Bowen said.

He said a long unpredictable delay would not impress commuters.

It's not the first time work on the level crossings has shut down stations.

Murrumbeena and Carnegie commuters endured station closures from August until September last year when temporary stations were built.

Carnegie had a second closure in January to March this year.

About 800,000 train journeys start at Murrumbeena each year, according to the State Government's most recent station patronage figures. More than 950,000 start at Carnegie.

Mr Summers said crews would need full access to the station during late June and July.

He said they would build temporary protective decking and continue installing beams around the station.

SurfRail

I might be there for the weekend of 10/11 June.

If I get a moment I'll head down that direction - I've covered 100% of the electrified route km in Melbourne (both train and tram, excluding irregularly served sidings and platforms for shortworkings) but I've never done Stony Point.

The changes to the Frankston and Dandenong lines will have been fairly dramatic since I last visited either by rail 5+ years ago or more, so I will make it my business to have a look.

ozbob

Dramatic indeed.  Well worth a look. The rail corridor Caulfield to Dandenong is eye-watering in its rapidly changing construction.

Makes SEQ look absurd taking a year or so for simple station upgrades!

This will be fun ..  :o

I will be heading to Oakleigh for gym as usual so that means on the M'Beena <> Hughesdale shuttle.  Also to go out further east Dandenong and intermediate stations (sky rail progress).

Go to Carnegie and Caulfield so will use both the M'Beena <> Carnegie, and the bus to Caulfield for longer excursions.

I understand mini-buses will be on the local shuttles, buses between M'Beena <> Caulfield which is the bulk of the pax really.

About to board plane at BNE.  No problems getting to the airport, although it is a little annoying to watch an Airtrain service depart 7 plat as you arrive at 8 at Roma St ... always been like that.

See you on the 5'3" !  :bna: :bna: :bna:
