A McGowan Labor Government will build METRONET to connect our suburbs and fix congestion.

WA Labor's first priorities will be:

    Complete the Forrestfield-Airport Line
    Build the Morley-Ellenbrook Line
    Build the Yanchep Line
    Build the Byford Line
Commence the Circle Line linking our suburbs
Building railcars in WA, for WA
Start fixing level crossings on existing lines
Integrating bike paths and cycling facilities with the rail network
A new METRONET train station at Karnup
Build a new Midland station near the new hospital and extend the line to Bellevue

Transport

QuoteThe centrepiece of the Liberals' transport plan is the $1.9 billion Perth Freight Link, which will extend Roe Highway to Stock Road and then be followed by a tunnel into Fremantle.

The Liberals argue that will improve safety on Leach Highway by taking trucks off the road and improve freight efficiency.

Mr Barnett is also promising to build a train line from Thornlie to Cockburn by 2023, at a cost of $520 million, on top of completing the airport rail line.

Its major road commitments include widening two southbound sections of the Mitchell Freeway and an upgraded tourist route along the South Coast, stretching from Walpole to Balladonia.

Labor's big ticket transport promise is to build the first stage of its 'Metronet' public transport system by 2023.

On top of the already under-construction airport rail link, it also includes a new line to Ellenbrook, a connection between Thornlie and Cockburn and extensions of existing lines to Byford and Yanchep.

The first stage of Metronet is costed at $2.945 billion, with Labor hoping to pay for part of that by walking away from the Freight Link and attempting to redirect the federal funding currently set aside for that.

It is also promising numerous road projects such as an extension of Leach Highway and a bridge connecting North Lake and Armadale roads in Cockburn

If the ALP win today, things looking relatively bright for PT in WA.

I really enjoyed my visit there in January 2017.  The proposed improvements will make a good network even better.

WA Today --> WA state election: Mark McGowan takes crown as Labor claims big win

QuoteEarly results showed West Australian Labor picking up double-digit swings in many key seats in Saturday's state election, and seats such as Forrestfield in suburban Perth changing from the Liberal Party to Labor.

ABC election analyst Antony Green said the swings were big enough for Labor to win government.

The Liberal Party was bracing itself for a crushing loss, with an exit poll showing Labor on track to record a massive swing and One Nation's support collapsing.

A Galaxy-Nine Network exit poll of 1765 voters suggested the controversial preference deal between the Liberal Party and One Nation had backfired, with Pauline Hanson's party receiving just six per cent of the vote.

The poll showed West Australian Labor leader Mark McGowan on track to pick up 17 seats – well above the 10 required to win power. Polling also showed Labor receiving 54.5 per cent of the two-party preferred vote compared with 45.5 per cent for the Liberals, a swing of 11.8 per cent to Labor from the 2013 election.

West Australian voters have tired of Premier Colin Barnett after eight years in power, and the rising unemployment rate damaged his chances. ...

One Notion disintegrated in the final two weeks of the campaign. This is a pleasant improvement on the normal course of events, which is to disintegrate soon after the election.

It'll be much nastier here, of course, but that 20% as per that Galaxy poll of a few weeks ago is probably less likely to materialise.

12th March 2017

Media Release
Deputy Premier, Minister for Transport and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning
The Honourable Jackie Trad

Congratulations Mark McGowan and WA Labor

The Palaszczuk Government has congratulated Mark McGowan and WA Labor on their decisive victory in yesterday's Western Australian election.

Acting Premier Jackie Trad said that she was looking forward to working alongside Mr McGowan and his government.

"I would like to extend my wholehearted congratulations to Mark McGowan and his team on their fantastic result in yesterday's election," Ms Trad said.

"I wish them all the best for what lies ahead and look forward to working with them to advance core Labor values of fairness, equality and the dignity of work in Northern Australia.

"West Australians chose a united Labor team that was focussed on delivering local jobs and transitioning the economy over the divisive personality politics and dodgy deals being peddled by the Liberals and the National Party.

"What is clear from this emphatic result is that Australians are rejecting the politics of division and fear that have plagued other Western nations in recent years.

"This should serve as a clear warning to Tim Nicholls and the LNP that people will not accept politicians who are more focussed on doing sneaky preference deals than on actually delivering for Queenslanders.

"I call on Tim Nicholls and the LNP to walk away from dodgy preference deals with One Nation.

"I also call on Pauline Hanson to retract her calls for Queensland to lose our fair share of GST funding to other states around the nation which would rip $1.6 billion out of our economy."
