They're getting rid of the yellow stops on Sir Fred Schonell Drive - at long last!

This is something RBoT has (quietly) advocated for years, good to see it become reality. This will also mean the end of people pressing the stop button too early on the 402, causing frustration for drivers and embarrassment for passengers. And chaos amongst drunk people on the N413.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

I can't believe it. Is it real? A very welcome change indeed James!

Hurray! Now they just need to get the UQ departure times right (I.E. 402 leaving 'first' for the majority of people in the post-class rush.

I am curious as to who initiated this service change? Bus stop rationalisation and bus reform are two RBOT goals.

Indeed, stop location and spacing rationalisation could probably occur before any route changes. This would get at least half the job done

reducing the task and any future controversy by having two things done at the same time.

Did this come from TransLink or BCC?

Stop spacing rationalisation saves fuel, speeds up services (reducing operating cost) and attracts more passengers (and revenue). It is one

of the few ' low hanging fruit ' there is. No new infrastructure, quick to implement.

Yay, this should hopefully balance loads better, since people will have no reason to avoid the "slow" 402.

As far as I am aware this is part of a larger committment to incremental bus reform. Former Staff of ex Minister Hinchliffe did advise me that there would be incremental moves to start sorting out the bus network.  So it is probably both TransLink and BCC involved, progress albeit slowly.

Better late than never I guess ...   :-t

It is also fair to say that most now ' get it ' - that is the need for bus network reform.

I didn't think of doing bus stop rationalisation and route rationalisation separately but there is merit in doing them separately as one leaves the

network routes intact - which means no "cuts cuts cuts" scare campaigns.

Bring on bus stop speed optimisation!

This is incredibly low-hanging fruit, arguably a change BT would have made anyway out of convenience. I've seen a number of p%ssed  off drivers on the 402 who stop at the yellow stops only to have nobody get off. Being picky, the 402 and 412's stopping patterns are still not the same. The 402 still stops at the yellow stops along Brisbane St/Gailey Rd and that odd stop at Boomerang St.

Eliminating the 'all-stops' and other redundant stops would really help in paving the way for network reform. Old Cleveland Rd, Moggill Rd and Gympie Rd should all be up next. Going local, the 411/428 could do with stop rationalisation too.
